Texas evens conference record at 4-4 with 72-68 win against Iowa State

Recommended Posts

Coming off of a road win on the road against TCU, the Longhorns returned to the Frank Erwin Center to host Iowa State. Texas built off the momentum from the victory in Fort Worth to collect their second straight victory, 72-68,  behind good performances from Jericho Sims and Matt Coleman. Sims continued his solid season by contributing 14 points and 9 rebounds. Coleman added 14 points of his own while dishing out 4 assists.

Overall, it was one of the most complete performances Texas has put together offensively all season. The Longhorns finished the afternoon shooting 52.8% from the field and 46.7% from deep. Texas was also 9 for 11 from the free throw line (81.8%). Freshman Donovan Williams matched his season high with 13 points to provide a spark coming off the bench.

After entering halftime down 31-30, the Longhorns continued to trail the entire second half until a 3-pointer from Courtney Ramey fell with 1:06 remaining gave Texas a 66-65 lead. A pair of free throws from Jones and Matt Coleman stretched the lead to 70-65, helping secure back-to-back conference wins and bringing their Big 12 record to 4-4.

Texas will now enter into perhaps their toughest 3 game stretch of the season, beginning with a trip to Lawrence on Monday to face Kansas. Following the matchup with the Jayhawks, the Longhorns will return home for games against Texas Tech and Baylor.
