Riding the fences: Week 14

The Texas Longhorns bounced back with a strong finish to the regular season in a dominant 49-24 win against Texas Tech. The convincing victory makes the late season slide by Texas even more confounding. Tom Herman fired or reassigned about half his coaching staff on Monday.

Clemson wrapped up a season of dominance by whipping South Carolina 38-3. The Tigers have now won a whopping seven straight games by at least 30 points.

At the other end of the spectrum, Maryland, who scored 142 points in its first two games, barely outpaced that mark in their final 10 games with 161 points. When the Terps took a lead on the Spartans in the second half, it was the first time Maryland led a game since October 19th.

Virginia erased years of futility with a win over Virginia Tech, 39-30. The ‘Hoos had lost 15 consecutive games to their in-state rivals.

All seven teams in the ACC Coastal have won the division over the past seven years. That’s remarkable.

West Virginia beat TCU in a hard fought game, 20-17. The game was tightly contested throughout, but outside of Big 12 country, it was unnoticed.

Ugh-lternate uniforms: Memphis’ black jerseys boosted them to a win, so this week’s nod goes to Louisville. The Cardinals wore this and got crushed by Kentucky:

Memphis bested Cincinnati, 34-24, and secured their spot in the AAC Championship Game. It’s a good thing that the teams played a competitive game because Memphis’ win also means the AAC Championship Game will be a rematch between these teams.

Iowa topped Nebraska, 27-24, sending the Huskers to their locker room with a 5-7 record in 2019. This will be the third straight year Nebraska has not gone to a bowl game.

Ohio State routed Michigan for the second straight year, winning 56-27 in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines were game but the Buckeyes were steady and methodical and pulled away. tOSU has now won four consecutive games at Michigan and this year’s result continues a lopsided decade in the rivalry.

On that note, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is 1-5 in Ann Arbor against Michigan State and Ohio State, but 29-0 against everyone else. Ouch.

Minnesota rowed the boat for a half but Wisconsin broke out a speed boat for the second half, ultimately winning 38-17. The Badgers scored 14 in the 3rd and 4th quarters and booked their spot in the B1G Championship Game.

Auburn knocked Alabama out of CFP contention by winning the Iron Bowl 48-45. The teams combined for a dizzying 48 points in the 2nd quarter. Notably, Alabama is now 0-7 all-time at Auburn when both teams are ranked.

Florida 40 – Florida State 17: The regular season for the ‘Noles is mercifully over.

A non-competitive game throughout, LSU dominated Texas A&M to the tune of 50-7. After playing a 7 OT thriller in 2018, this year’s game was the complete opposite.

Notre Dame started slow then whipped Stanford, 45-24. After a 10 point first quarter outburst from the Cardinal, Notre Dame’s defense adjusted, settled in and limited Stanford for the final three stanzas.

But when talking about dominant defense, conversations must include Utah. In a 45-14 beatdown of Colorado, the Utes allowed their first second-half touchdown at home this season. Additionally, only two teams, Northern Illinois & Colorado, scored more than one touchdown at Utah.

I don't know about that. I was more thrilled with this year's game. 😂

Several fond memories in this game. I think my favorite was when aggy linebacker was looking to the bench to get a sign and all of a sudden he collapsed on the ground as if injured. The camera caught him with the most blatant fake injury ever. Typical aggy. A chorus of boos rained down and the camera showed Coach O gesturing as if to say “get that shit out of here”.

A lot of teams do it but leave it to the rat bastards to make a fool of themselves. The guy was standing there with his hands on his hips looking toward the sideline and then suddenly collapses. All caught on tape. ROTGLMFAO
