Getting into bourbon more and more, so this thread will help.  I’m an old-fashioned guy still trying to perfect them.

I found out yesterday that I may have the opportunity to buy some Pappy's 10-year that was bottled back in 2010.  I'm curious about how much someone would be willing to pay for what amounts to a 20-year old bottle of Pappy's because the guy that I'd be getting it from hasn't given me a price yet and I'd like to have an idea before I make any kind of commitment.  Anybody have a ballpark figure?

Sounds like it’s the 10 yr, the Old Rip Van Winkle and is the youngest of the Van Winkle line out of Buffalo Trace.  And just because it was bottled in 2010 doesn’t mean it’s now a 20 yr bourbon. While it may be 20 yrs old, it hasn’t aged and taken on the aging characteristics from the barrel by spending an additional 10 yrs in the bottle.

These run between $550-650 on secondary.   Retail is ~$70/bottle.

I wouldn’t say it’s not worth an escalated price, but I personally wouldn’t pay $500 for it.

Since Balcones changed their master distiller several years back, the product has not been as good IMO.  The Blue is a good bourbon but I think you could find better product for the price.  New resident bourbon members can chime in, @Mico @Hook ‘em Danno @TexasMcBizzle @BigDCuernolargo @Rookie97 @scary jarbro @Utsam44

Just don't let McBizzle try to get you into Garrison.  ;)

I tried the blue, 100% corn.  It was interesting.  Talking to my bourbon guy at Specs in Downtown Houston, he echoes the same comments here that it just isn't the same since switching master distiller.

In my days at UT we would hit the Black Cat Lounge on 6th to listen to Banana Blender Surprise, eat free boiled hot dogs and drink $1 Pearl Lights, PBR or Mickey's hand grenades.  Can't beat it.

Texas Pride? Not too bad at $2/6pk. And you could get it cheaper if you shopped around. That's what my friend would buy when it was his turn. Lol

Took the wife to Whiskey Cake and got the BYOF (build your own flight) with Blanton's, Kentucky Owl Confiscated, Old Forester B-Day 2020 and EH Taylor Small Batch, also tried Stagg Jr. for the first time as well.  REALLY liked the Kentucky Owl and Old Forester B-Day.  I'm not sure I'd pay the $125-$150/bottle I've seen for the KO but I'd definitely have another glass if I saw it on the menu.  I've been on an Old Forester kick for the last few months (especially with the 1897 and 1920) and wasn't disappointed at all with the B-Day, my only issue with it is that I can't find it at any of the stores that I shop at...might have to talk to Earl's bourbon guy!  The EH Taylor was very good, pretty smooth and a little spicy which I like.  Blanton's was the only one I tried that I've had before so it was what I expected it to be and enjoyed it as much as I have before.  The Stagg Jr was probably my favorite of the five (B-Day was a very close second), it definitely has a kick to it but I thought it was still pretty smooth and I liked the spicy/caramelly flavor.  I paid $39 for the flight which I didn't think was all that bad, the price is based on the $/glass of the bourbons that you choose, I did consider adding Pappy's instead of Blanton's but the $130 a glass for the 15-year was probably going to bump the price up to a little more than I wanted to pay.

Hey, currently i am drinking Red Headed Slut Shot and i'm just loving it. Recently  got to know about it from a blog and when i tried it It just become my favorite booze. Its preparation is simple. Just do this:

Combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake well to dilute the drink a little with the water from the ice.  The drink can be sweet and syrupy so you might want to dilute it more

Jager and peach schnapps?  I guess the person that came up with that couldn't find  anything else to make a shot out of.  Woof.  I'm not trying to be pretentious, but my days of drinking things like this are long gone.  This drink sounds like something that is for college girls looking to get drunk.  No thanks, but good luck.  Report back on the hangover factor.  ;)
