AUSTIN – The Jalen Hurts Project at Oklahoma has gone as well as any Sooner could’ve hoped.

The Alabama graduate transfer has led the sixth-ranked Sooners to a 5-0 start while amassing 1,523 passing yards, a 14-to-2 touchdown/interception ratio and a nation-leading 231.3 passer rating. He’s averaging 99.8 rushing yards per game and has scored seven times on the ground.

With Hurts at the helm and a resurgent defense, OU has outscored its opponents 267-95 this season.

“You are not going to shut Oklahoma out,” Texas coach Tom Herman said. “This is not going to be a 10-7 ballgame. We know that and our kids know that. We know that they are going to make plays and they are extremely explosive offensively.”

With Texas-Oklahoma set to kickoff Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Cotton Bowl, here’s a look at what some Longhorns had to say about Oklahoma’s Heisman candidate quarterback, Jalen Hurts:

On Hurts’ ability to break out into open space: His scrambles I think are probably what you see him get the most open on because once you do realize it's pass, you better go cover those guys. So that leaves some pretty big voids in the field. Then in the quarterback-run game too, it's why we believe in it to a certain degree, that you literally have added an extra player and that ability to block for the quarterback.

So both of those two things combined allows him to find a lot of space in the run game.
