MySanAntonio.com Texas S BJ Foster to miss several weeks with 'significant' hamstring injury

Recommended Posts

AUSTIN – A Texas defense that was just shredded by LSU will be without one of its key play-makers for several weeks.

Coach Tom Herman on Monday announced sophomore safety BJ Foster suffered a “significant” hamstring injury in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 45-38 loss to LSU. Foster went down on UT’s final defensive play and was evaluated Sunday.

Foster was a major disruptive force for Texas in the first half, getting to LSU quarterback Joe Burrow for a pair of sacks. He ranks second on the team with 15 total tackles and is first in sacks.

“He’s extremely physical with good size and speed, good instincts,” Herman said of Foster. “We’ve got to coach him better on some of the details.

"DeMarvion Overshown would be the likely candidate (to replace him). Good thing that’s the deepest position on the field.”

Overshown is a fellow sophomore who recorded a sack out of UT’s eight-defensive back “Cowboy” package in the season opener against Louisiana Tech. An All-American out of Arp, Overshown last season appeared in nine games as a true freshman and played mostly on special teams.

No. 13 Texas (1-1) is set to take on Rice (0-2) this Saturday at NRG Stadium.
