Jameson McCausland 899
BY: Harrison Wier Let’s try this again, shall we? Bru McCoy committed to USC at the Army All-America Game, signed his letter or intent and then enrolled shortly after. About a week, after McCoy enrollee, then USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury left to take the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals. Ultimately, Kingsbury’s departure along with some other factors led McCoy to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. And as they say, “the rest was history.” McCoy’s recruitment was always pretty straightforward. He was always destined to go to USC. Mater Dei has become a USC pipeline in recent years, with some of McCoy's teammates like JT Daniels and Amon-Ra St. Brown heading to the Trojans. Texas quietly entered the picture for McCoy and slowly began to shift momentum its way. With a great season under its belt and USC clearly being far from stable, McCoy was intrigued by the prospects of playing in Austin. At the All-American Bowl however, McCoy decided to go to Los Angeles. But Tom Herman won the battle, as McCoy found his way to Austin as a Longhorn. Thanks, Transfer Portal! McCoy is the No. 1 rated athlete in the nation, and the No. 4 prospect overall. This is the biggest get for Texas since Vince Young, rankings wise. Let's analyze how McCoy will fit on the 40 acres: *I analyzed McCoy as a WR because that is the position he will likely excel at in college. If he does indeed play some OLB, we will do a separate analysis* Player Information Name: Bru McCoy Position: ATH High School: Mater Dei City & State: Santa Ana, CA Measurables Height: 6’2.5 Weight: 212 40-yard: 4.62 Shuttle: 4.22 Vertical: 37.9" Statistics 2017: 46 Rec, 770 Yds, 11 TDs, 23 Tckl, 3 TFL, 2 Sacks 2018: 71 Rec, 1312 Yds, 13 TDs Film Bru McCoy Film Pros: The first thing that stood out is McCoy's excellent footwork. He is a solid route runner, which will translate well to college. Excellent hands. Hardly ever uses his body to catch the ball. Great vision with the ball in his hands. Excels at getting yards after first contact. Can high point the ball when needed. Uses his size well against smaller DBs. Excels at multiple positions. Can be utilized in the slot or on the outside and have the same positive impact. Not afraid of contact. Demonstrated he can be physical in the run game as a blocker and pancaked several defenders. Cons: Sometimes is a little bit slow to get off the ball at the line of scrimmage, but makes up for it with his speed. Not enough film showing McCoy's ability on a diversity of routes. He mainly ran post routes and double moves at Mater Dei, but showed some ability on fade routes and bubble screens as well. Summary There is no other way to put it — Bru McCoy is an elite talent that can excel in the Texas system. McCoy has the ability to be a Lil'Jordan Humphrey type of player. He can be utilized outside, in the slot, or even in the backfield due to his physicality. McCoy will fight for playing time early on, especially if Humphrey decides to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. McCoy may not have the size advantage that Collin Johnson and Lil'Jordan Humphrey do, but his athleticism creates a unique nightmare for opposing defenders. McCoy has a rare skillset that contains elite hands and footwork along with fantastic vision with the ball in his hands. In the Texas offense, McCoy has the ability to shine. With his speed and athleticism, Tom Herman has tons of different options at his discretion when it comes to McCoy, including bubble screens, intermediate slants, post routes, double moves, and more. McCoy has the ability to excel at all aspects of the Texas system, but it may take him some type to get familiar with the playbook. Nevertheless, we expect McCoy to show why he is the No. 1 athlete in the country for the 2019 class and make an immediate impact upon his arrival at Texas. Final Verdict This recruitment had some twists and turns, but ultimately the majority of those covering both USC and Texas football felt that McCoy would be a Trojan when all was said and done. With the Mater Dei connection to the Trojans as well as McCoy's parents indicating a preference for him to stay close to home, Los Angeles seemed like the likely destination for the 5-star. However, McCoy decided that a change of scenery would be nice, and Austin would be the perfect fit. There is no way to put into words how big of a victory this is for Tom Herman. With questions surrounding the stability of the USC program and whether or not new OC Kliff Kingsbury would stick around or bolt for the NFL, Herman took advantage and pulled off a last-minute upset. McCoy will compete for playing time immediately, and by the time his tenure at Texas ends, he has the potential to be one of the best players Texas fans have seen in burnt orange in years. 63_Texas_1, CCausey11, Sirhornsalot and 7 others 7

TheContractor 437
Good write up. Great athlete. I like him in the slot slightly more than outside at X bc he is slightly slow at the snap. Love him in LJH role but my favorite is as. B-Backer. I know that’s not your analysis but I do hope he is open to playing some Defense. He is damn good coming off the edge. That physicality will be great on O also. Earl Nobis Jefferson

UTfish 1,049
Had to be a gut wrenching decision for the young man. I have no doubt that we will show him the love he will need to be happy here and have the success he deserves. Thanks to his parents for giving him their support in his decision, even though it means he will be farther from home. Would like for them to know how much we appreciate their great sacrifice. And that goes for all the parents who put their trust in The University of Texas to care for their sons and daughters in the best way possible. Hiwood 220
So the Horns have the MaxPreps POY and the Gatorade POY on campus at the same time, my question is how do we get both of them on the field at the same time along with Collin Johnson, they all cant play in the slot...How much does this change the offense... It almost reminds me of when we had Roy and BJ at the same time and both were considered the best WR's in the state..Roy had a great career , BJ, not so much Only so many throws to go around, not like we are going to an Air Raid type offense and throw it 40 times a game

primal defense 4,519
Bru McCoy to Texas means both Red River rivals have absurd WR classes Just in case you were worried about the Red River Shootout ever becoming less shootout-y. By Jason Kirk Jan 26, 2019, 11:04am EST SHARE Bru McCoy Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports Here are the 247Sports Composite’s 2019 five-star recruits expected to play wide receiver in college: Jadon Haselwood, Oklahoma signee Bru McCoy, new Texas commit (who signed with USC, but left to sign UT financial aid docs after OC Kliff Kingsbury up and got an NFL job) Garrett Wilson, Ohio State signee Theo Wease, Oklahoma signee George Pickens, Auburn commit Jordan Whittington, Texas signee That’s the whole list of five-star WRs. Thanks for joining us today! Also, Texas signed four-star WRs Jake Smith (Gatorade’s national high school player of the year) and Marcus Washington, plus No. 5 tight end Brayden Liebrock. And Oklahoma signed four-star WRs Trejan Bridges, plus No. 3 tight end Austin Stogner. Texas A&M, Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, and others put together great lists of skill signees, but it’s pretty easy to argue the Red River rivals are coming away from Signing Day with by far the two best groups of pass catchers. Texas and OU both added four-star running backs as well. Both the Sooner and Longhorn freshmen join teams that lose their top receivers to NFL Draft early entry (Marquise Brown from OU and Lil’Jordan Humphrey from UT) but otherwise return a bunch, meaning some pretty damn loaded receiving corps in the near future. For 2019 at least, both teams also might be just as suited to having the quarterback run the ball as anything else. Both Texas’ Sam Ehlinger and new Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts recently ran for what would prove to be game-winning scores against Georgia, in fact. There are better stats to use in order to show both QBs are comfortable leading with their feet, but whew. Sorry, Georgia. Expect OU’s Hurts offense to be based around option runs and quick throws, with Ehlinger continuing to evolve as a passer while also doing the Tebow thing at times. Whenever these teams decide to air it out within the next few years, though ... have fun stopping all this. https://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2019/1/26/18198490/texas-bru-mccoy-oklahoma-receiver-recruiting

primal defense 4,519
This is the highest rated player UT has ever recruited out of California as far as I can remember.. Ricky was around 50th nationally. This is also the best out of state recruiting I've seen since I've been a Texas fan.Twelve out of the twenty four recruits are from out of state from seven states. Bru should not have to sit a year. It would be a waste for UT. If Bru is as good as he should be then he will probably be here for three years. We won't get any benefit from a redshirt and he should be any to contribute next year. It is going to make college football look bad if the NCAA says Bru has to sit a year while Kliff can go to the NFL especially when USC said that NFL teams could not talk to him. MORE: Big 12 NSD questions | Pac-12 NSD questions | Texas 2019 commits | USC 2019 commits FARRELL’S VIEW: NO No way. I understand that McCoy may have been mislead by Kliff Kingsbury when he was the offensive coordinator at USC for a short period of time, but that’s life. Sorry to break it to everyone, but coaches lie all the time and so many kids have signed with a school only to see a position coach or coordinator leave for an NFL job or someplace else. If you allow McCoy to transfer without penalty after signing with USC you’re opening a door that can’t be closed. It won’t hurt McCoy to sit a year if that’s what he wants to do and no one forced him to enroll early or sign early. He could have waited until February to see if there would be any coaching changes but instead he decided to commit to USC. Players should commit to a school for reasons other than just a coach and this is a great chance to set that example. GORNEY’S VIEW: YES No one is blaming Kliff Kingsbury for leaving USC so quickly especially when an NFL head coaching job becomes available, but no one should hold Bru McCoy to his decision, either. He should be immediately eligible if he decides on going to Texas, which looks almost definite at this point. Days before making his commitment at the All-American Bowl – and the timeline seems to be foggy on when he actually signed his letter of intent – McCoy and his family sat down with the then-offensive coordinator for an in-home visit and Kingsbury broke down how the USC offense would run and what he envisioned for the program. McCoy bought in and then days later Kingsbury was interviewing with the Arizona Cardinals and then took the job. So the five-star athlete who will play receiver in college is now supposed to be held to a commitment he made basically under false pretenses, to a school without an offensive coordinator, when he is no longer secure in that choice? All the cliches about “pick a school for the school and not the coaches,” is just not how it works. Kids develop relationships with coaches and want to play for them, many times that’s where their loyalties lie. So McCoy, who’s been on USC’s campus only for a couple weeks, should be allowed to leave and head to Texas without any penalty – just like Kingsbury was allowed to leave for a better opportunity. https://n.rivals.com/news/rival-views-should-mccoy-be-able-to-play-immediately-at-texas-
