Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

I’d bet that the Mannings want him to redshirt. A freshman playing in our league 95% of the time is going to have trouble.

Our perception of sark may be that he is stubborn, but that’s all it is…perception.

We don’t know what is going on behind the scenes to drive his decisions.

One thing we can all agree on is that he needs to win and soon. And I think he will.

He said the same thing last year and we debated (some argued) about Card vs QE....so he starts QE, he goes down and its the Card show....I like Sark, defended him all last year and he is still my guy to coach our Team...but if there is one trait that bugs me is that is can be stubborn like a rented mule...I can see now why HC transferred, Where would he have been on this years chart ?

Absolutely. He had to transfer to get PT with the time he has left. He couldn't afford to sit behind QE another year. I'm not sure Murphy wouldn't have passed him on the depth chart.

Sark is stubborn though, I agree. How he threw to Worthy with a broken hand so damned much while getting lackluster results the whole time speaks to that.

Especially when Whitt and Sanders are very capable WRs.  That's a big head scratcher.

My take is Manning is the most prepared freshman QB ever. No need to red ahirt him as will be here three years.

He will be the #2 QB. IMO Murphy is not the pocket passer Sark prefers. In the right system he could be a Cam or Vince type QB.

I disagree on Murphy. Kid plays very well in the pocket and has an arm as strong as Chris Simms was. I think he's in the right system. Being able to run well is just a bonus.

Think I remember someone saying Murphy didn't run much in HS. Not that he couldn't, just didn't need to often.

I agree we don't need to redshirt him but I also think he doesn't play in more than 4 games unless there is a major injury to QE.

He and Murphy should get to play as much a posslble as this will be Ewers last year proably.

If this team is as good as a lot of the gurus think, should be plenty of playing time for all backups.

Manning wants to Redshirt. That is the plan. If Quinn gets hurt he will play but other than that he will get mop up duty.

Murphy has never shown any ability to scramble and run in HS or showcases. Not sure where that idea came from. Plus he still has nagging foot injuries that make him running even less likely

Quinn is your starter. Archibald is the backup. Maalik will run 3rd if healthy. There is no competition. Just some coach speak. Don't fall for click bait and headline writing.

I hope Manning gets at leas4 opportunities for mop up duty..if more, it really doesn't matter if he burns the red shirt. He certainly doesn't need 5 seasons of college ball.

It's break through this year or back to the drawing board. I go along with an article I read some time ago, two things need big improvement.

QB play and play calling.

I agree with you....but play calling is contingent on QB play...I still think Sark is the best play caller in CFB, we saw plays last year we have never seen at UT, but the team execution makes play caller look good or bad..if there is one thing I believe that I learned from Bryan Harsin is that the passing game opens up the running game, and the running game eats up the clock

Man if we can’t win the big 12 in 2023with the talent on this roster then….well I’ll be at a loss for words.

There was too many long pass playes on first down that was incomplete. Due to poor passes ora broke hand. How long does it take for one to see this is not working, and is putting team in a hole for second down.

Play calling is also knowing what is working and what isnot.

The guys on the longhorn blitz have described it as Sark being a great play designer but has lacked overall game feel. I think its a pretty good description of the problem.
