Well, the Afghan hounds won best in show over at the Animal Husbandry Dept I hear.

Huge success story, since the Corps invaded that department and took the Afghans hostage right after 9-11 years ago. There were minimal casualties. Great comeback story.

For what it's worth, 247 said QB Quinn Ewers was the MVP of today's scrimmage and IT wrote he was "really good."

He had a few TD throws but the more impressive stuff was his ability to improvise on certain throws and avoid the blitz.

No injuries overall.

Thats what I've been waiting to hear . . .

USFL Ditches Chains, Will Measure First Downs by Placing Microchip in Ball

The USFL will break with the tradition of using chains to measure for first downs. Instead, the new league will use a microchipped football, and the yellow line fans have come accustomed to seeing on TV.

The league debuted the new system during a preseason game on Friday night.

The new league will also outfit two players from each team with helmet cams and use drones to increase the number of camera angles.

While the USFL will be the first to use microchips to measure first downs, the NFL has used chips in balls for some time to measure stats such as velocity and other throwing metrics. Though, there’s reason to question whether the chips the USFL uses will be accurate enough to measure first downs.

As PFT’s Michael David Smith explains:

The NFL already has a chip in every football, but it uses those chips only for its Next Gen Stats tracking data, and not for officiating. That’s because the chips in the middle of every ball just aren’t accurate enough to locate where a football is to the inch. The data works fine as a good approximation of where the ball is, give or take the length of one football. But it doesn’t tell you whether a third down play just barely picked up the first down, or whether the offense should be facing fourth-and-inches.

The USFL debuts on April 16 on Fox and NBC.

Great catch by J Whit and great throw by the QB. Couldn't tell who he was, but he stepped into the throw with Sorrell right in his face.

Some practice notes from Saturday, paraphrased from TFB's report

1. Flood is experimenting with Hayden Connor at left tackle. So far, so good. He's put in solid work.

2. Collins had another solid practice

3. Whittington and Sanders are becoming excellent 3rd down options. Whittington looks better than ever.

4. Offense won the day over the defense.

5. The passing game has really come on in the last few practices. Ewers has looked very good. Awesome Saturday showing with several TD passes to Whittington and Sanders. Ewers made some passes that left mouths open.

6. Card has been solid and is doing everything asked of him. He's looking better than he did last Fall.

7. Jamier Johnson has been a pleasant surprise in the secondary.

8. Isaac Pearson's punting has been outstanding.

Is it true that Guilbeau isn’t practicing due to violation of team rules?

Yes, 247 saying he's not with the team right now.

Safe to say he won't be back for the rest of spring practice.
