THE MATCHUP—No. 23 Texas hosts No. 7 Stanford for a four-game series beginning Thursday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field…last season, Stanford took three of four from Texas in Palo Alto.


A LOOK AT THE CARDINAL—No. 7 Stanford enters the series at 11-1 after taking two of three from Michigan…junior RHP Tristan Beck was named Pac 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week following his performance vs. the Wolverines…the Cardinal started the season 10-0 before dropping the second game of their Saturday doubleheader…Stanford holds a 2.08 team ERA and a .197 batting average against.


A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—After a 7-2 win over UTSA last Tuesday, Texas is coming off a series win over Northwestern…the Longhorns took three straight from the Wildcats after dropping the series opener…the Longhorns scored 10+ runs in each of the final three games.


NEXT UP—Texas will head to Fayetteville, Ark., for a two-game series at No. 5 Arkansas…the Razorbacks sit at 9-3 heading into this weekend…the teams will play Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and Wednesday evening at 4 p.m. before returning to Austin to begin Big 12 Conference action on Friday night vs. Kansas.


IN THE RANKINGS—Texas currently sits at : D1Baseball (#23), Baseball America (#17), NCBWA (#20), USA Today Coaches Poll (#20), and Collegiate Baseball (#26). 


TOP OF THE ORDER—The Longhorns’ one-through-three hitters—David Hamilton, Masen Hibbeler, and Kody Clemens, respectively—have hit a combined .363 (49-for-135) so far this season with 11 extra-base hits, 33 runs scored, and 28 RBI…they’ve also combined for 16 stolen bases on the year and have combined for 29 walks and just 15 strikeouts.  


STREAKING—Kody Clemens has opened the 2018 campaign on a tear at the plate…the junior has hit safely in all 12 games so far this season, compiling a line of .436/.585/.718…the 12-game hit streak is the longest for a Longhorn since Madison Carter’s 15-game streak in 2014…Clemens has amassed 14 walks to just three Ks on the season and leads the team with three homers…he is 3-for-3 in stolen bases and holds a team-best 1.303 OPS (on-base plus slugging). 


WELCOME BACK, TOMMY—Stanford assistant Tommy Nicholson makes his way back to the Forty Acres this weekend…Nicholson played at Texas from 1998-2000 where he only missed three starts over three seasons and compiled a .327 career average with 147 runs scored, 223 hits, 37 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, 114 RBI and 20 stolen bases…Team MVP in 1999 and 2000, Nicholson also served two stints as a member of the Texas coaching staff (2009-10, 2013-16). 


HENLEY HAPPENING—RHP Blair Henley extended his scoreless innings streak to 12 on Saturday in game two of the doubleheader vs. Northwestern…he tossed six shutout innings with two hits, no walks, and four strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 0.53 on the season…he was named Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week following his six-inning effort at LSU on Feb 25…the sophomore scattered six hits and three walks while fanning three and keeping the Tigers off the board…the honor was the first such award for Henley in his Longhorns career and the first conference honor for a Longhorn this season.


MCKENZIE’S MANY TALENTS—Senior utilityman Jake McKenzie, a petroleum engineering major, was recently awarded the Marvin Wright Student Athlete Award from the Cockrell School of Engineering and the Big 12’s Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award.
