beevomav
Thanks Mack for another embarrassment. Yet another teams comes to our house and kicks our ass. The worse part is I see no light at the end of the tunnel. We appear to be stuck with two quarterbacks who have no place on this roster, let alone play. I think it is past time to admit David Ash is not a starting QB. Oh he seems fine when the running backs are getting 200 yards a game. The problem is he is incapable of lifting his game. He seems to have panic attacks and just do one dumb thing after another. McCoy is not the answer either. All those pale when you consider we probably will go through this the next two years. This telling quote from Ash after the TCU loss. "I was ready to play, but wasn't ready to deal with adversity." Not what I want to hear from my starting QB. Hard to find a problem with the defense until you look at the rushing numbers. TCU blows up on rushing the ball and yet another zone read QB failure. We get beat by a team with players that we wouldn't recruit. We might have a talent evaluation problem in Austin? Which brings me to a question. Why doesn't Texas use the zone read? I keep hearing Ash is a good runner but so far I have seen nothing to make me believe he is a good anything. Is it wrong to not be too upset if we lose out? I am not saying I am there but if I knew it would get rid of Mack and Manny I would consider being there. Plus, it probably won't matter because I see them losing to Kansas St and to Minnesota in Meineke Car Care of Texas Bowl. Are you excited? Before I get off the QB's. What the hell was Case McCoy thinking when he threw a ball up for a hail mary with over a minute remaining, on first down and at mid-field? Are our two QB's capable of thinking? Maybe they are what the look like. Two junior high QB's? Am I being too tough? Call me a moron, which a good follower called me yesterday for suggesting McCoy replace Ash. 86 yards on 33 carries. Head coach Patterson can judge talent and with a school who consistently gets the leftovers from Tex, OU, ATM and others he has two NFL caliber defensive ends. Great coach with a great game plan. Should he be considered for the next UT head coach? We did find out it is not just Oklahoma. Mack proved he can not prepare against a team other than the Sooners. Finally from Wescott Eberts of BON: The fact of the matter is that Patterson evaluates better, develops better, and has been able to overcome injuries and arrests and a host of issues to beat an opponent that holds so many advantages. MBHORNSFAN
Ironically TCU is now 7-4. What have they overcome. I find it funny that Texas fans are stating that TCU & Patterson is so great. They are 7 & 4 that's not great. I am not saying we are great either. You just had to average teams playing and the average team from TCU won.
Administrators bbdude Posted November 23, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted November 23, 2012 Patterson is a better coach. Our players are much more talented and we still got rolled. Average is right but the word average should not be used in conjunction with Texas football. Ahhhhhhhhh!

Average is right but the word average should not be used in conjunction with Texas football. Ahhhhhhhhh! Sadly I think we may as well get used to it. I see nothing to convince me it will change. My guess is Mack will throw another couple of coordinators under the bus and start with the hype around the end of recruiting. It will become full blown during the Spring Game and I, as usual, will convince myself this year will be different. Welcome to UT style 'Groundhog Day.' For the apologists that talk about the records Mack has put up in comparison.... NOt a valid argument. These other coaches have done more with less. Honestly folks I think we just need a change in order to start seeing clearly again. I respect Mack but it ain't "fresh" any more. This is not the good old boy network - it is college football. I am not that happy with the offensive playcalling either. The defense is inexcusable... All coaches should be evaluated at the end of the season. Bevostuntdouble
I agree with your assessment of Ash. When the controversy originated the reason Ash got the nod was because of his "mobility." Well he doesnt run anymore and we have a stable of legitimate backs. I called for McCoy before the season started and wanted him throughout. The kid still hasnt been given the opportunity to succeed. He is constantly put in terrible situations and told to "dig us out." Ash is horrible and whoever recruited him should be at a very minimum fired. He has a terribly weak arm and is very inaccurate. I saw an interesting stat about Ash last night during the game. It was that all of this Int's have been inside the opposing teams 30 yard line. We have a top 5 program(not team) and a QB starting for us that no team in their right mind would have on the roster much less starting. You may be right about McCoy but the kid hasnt been given the opportunity to sink or swim like his brain dead counterpart. I wont speak so hostile about Mack because I love what he has done for our program in his time there, and greatly appreciate it. With that said, I think its time for him to go. I dont think he is tough enough on his players or coaches and does not demand results, obviously. We have the talent on the field and it is not being developed as it should. He has no fire. It was a huge mistake allowing Muschamp to walk out the door. I dont like what Harsin has brought to the team either. It seems that each week there is another complex game plan and that the players dont get a chance to gain an identity. Are we a run team? We have a great backfield. Or are we a spread offense? With a horrible QB. He doesnt work toward our strengths at all. Save the Boise ball for the blue field. Id like to see Mack, Manny, and Bryan replaced... And potentially the OLine coach. We get too much talent to be failing at developing it.

We get too much talent to be failing at developing it. I'm in sync with you for the most part. You hit the nail on the head with Muschamp. We let him slide away because Mack supposedly got his groove back after the '09 National Championship Game. All Muschamp has done is lead his Gators to the door of a national title game where they are knocking as we speak. The problem with David Ash is you don't know if Dr. Jeckyl or Mr Hyde will show up. He either really good or really bad in games. Case McCOy is not a good quarterback but he has the heart of a lion. The coaches weren't going to go with a freshman qb because it made no sense.... then. Personally I think Jalen Overstreet is not getting the credit he deserves. The coaches really like him and he plays qb on the scout team in practice. The bank was placed on the arrival of Tyrone Swoopes but the word is he is going to be hit or miss. Personally, where this team is, we NEED a dual threat guy at qb. I think Mack is gone at the end of the season, on his own accord, most likely. Manny Diaz will (and should be fired). beevomav
All Ash interception have been inside the opponents 30? Great catch BSD..The thing that worries me is Ash basically admitted he panicked against TCU and that is not good. I don't get all these red shirts? How many F*****g QB's do you need. I really looked forward to Overstreet running the Wildcat but I guess that is another pipe dream. There are coaches out there that mix things up but Brown is not one of them. He acts like getting to a bowl game, any bowl game is a big deal. I do disagree about this being his last season. If Rick Barnes still has a job, Mack will coach as long as he wants to. As long as the money rolls in the University will do squat.
Administrators bbdude Posted November 24, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted November 24, 2012 Barnes might be on his way out too. When you lose to Chaminade you have issues.... Listen guys, the one dude on the staff that I always see yelling and pushing the guys is the d-backs coach Duane Akina. That dude has more fire in his gut than all the other coaches combined. Bevostuntdouble
When I watch Muschamp in interviews or running into halftime he looks like a guy that has nothing but winning on his mind and he will accept nothing less from his players. Mack has completely lost that. He has done great with UF and they dont have a good offense at all. They play a good solid brand of football. As long as Harsin is there we wont have that. Well, as mentioned somewhere above, I think it was accurate stating that Ash is good when the run game is a legitimate threat. If they load up the box and dare him to throw, we are screwed. If our receivers werent as good as they are his numbers would be a lot worse! Literally every ball thrown more than 15 yards is under thrown or the WR has to make an acrobatic catch. I would have liked to scratch Ash as of last year. If its between him and McCoy, I want McCoy. What do you think about Connor Brewer? He is supposed to be more of a traditional passer, and accurate. At this point I'd love to seen Jalen roll out there. I am not a fan of this current ridiculous rotation. Its tough to open up the run if there is no threat of your QB making an accurate pass. I know mobile QBs are all the rage right now but the successful vision I have is a stud backfield, solid and skilled receiver core, and a QB who is a LEGITIMATE threat to compete accurate passes. Which is all predicated on the OLine. A pocket passer also gives the OLine a pretty solid idea of what their QB is gonna do and makes protection a bit more simple, in my opinion. The majority of the best programs in the country are based on a solid passer/game manager/non-mistake maker, a good run game, and dominant O and D lines. As I said before, Longhorn nation owes Mack a lot of respect for what he has accomplished... However, I hope you are correct. I hope he steps down before more damage is done. As for Manny, I dont have many words in reference to the man who has made our D an utter embarrassment and the worst I have ever witnessed. Bevostuntdouble
I was just thinking that! How many QBs can one team possibly need, and then not use. Throw Ash onto the practice squad and bring Street up. Akina comment... Agree completely. I am also fearful you are right Beevomav that Mack will stay as long as money pours in. UT football is the most profitable sports program in all of NCAA sports, says Forbes.
Administrators bbdude Posted November 24, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted November 24, 2012 This offensive line does fine against the Wyomings and the New Mexico States, but against good poass rushing defenses they crater. One thing is for sure, the qb situation is back in question. I think Ash needs to finish the year because the coaches made the decision to let him start this season, and they need to let it ride. This putting him in and pulling him is utter garbage. He will play the rest of the season because there is still too much to lose - potentially 9 wins and a decent bowl game. We can still notch 10 wins but I am not sure it takes the sting out of some fans' mouths. The qb situation will move itself because like someone said earlier you cannot keep a handful of talented qb's on the bench for too long before they get restless. Bevostuntdouble
A 10 win season with one of the worst D's I've seen in burnt orange would not lessen the sting in the least... Especially since college football and the media has been swayed so heavily toward the SEC. College ball is no longer about team vs team. Somehow someway and at some point it became division vs division. While that wouldnt generally bother me since I have one team and that is it... That general SEC bias influences preseason rankings(the biggest joke in college football) and in season voting which in turn effects money, recruiting, and seasonal destiny. All of which effect our Horns. We have looked our absolute worst on the biggest stages this year, utterly terrible. So our overall play is going to greatly effect us next season when it comes ranking time.
Administrators bbdude Posted November 24, 2012 Administrators Report Share Posted November 24, 2012 Yeah it would be unprecedented to win 10 games with a horrific defense. If we can manage to leave K-State with a victory and somehow secure a Cotton Bowl berth against aggy, we have a shot at redemption. Not saying how it would turn out buyt if we did beat aggy in the Cotton Bowl this year, would Mack be forgiven? Think of what this team would look like with a top 5 defense like we were supposed to have.....

Bevostuntdouble
I would not forgive Mack if we beat the Aggs. At best we'd be the wild card that is inconsistent and cant be counted on to win. That does not overshadow 3 seasons of underperforming. If Mack loves the program he will step away... Know when to call it quits. And if there is a god Manny "the greatest tackling coach ever" will be set a blaze.

Bevostuntdouble
AGREED! Great location, great people, great funding, great recruits, and all the potential in the world! Ive heard Grudens name thrown out for several potential jobs(Tennessee and another school I cant remember). If UT opens up UT provides Gruden the best potential for success and I love that dudes intensity. This is a new generation of kids... They need a strong lead by example or "Ill break one off in" you kinda coaches. UT is a final destination, not a stepping stone.
