McKinney back breaks Texas rushing record

McKinney High School running back Matt Gadek ran for 599 yards on 49 carries Thursday night to break the Texas UIL 11-man football state record for yards in a game.
The 5-10, 175-pound senior accomplished the feat in a 63-50 win over Plano East.
Gadek, who ran for 357 yards in the first half, had 536 yards - which would have been the fourth-best mark in state history - when McKinney got the ball back with 3:49 remaining. McKinney used Gadek to run out the clock, giving him the ball eight more times to pick up 63 more yards.

The previous record was 587 set by Somerville's Daryl Ellis in 1998.
The Houston-area record is 547, set by Morton Ranch's Deion Williams in 2012.
The six-man football state record was set by Paint Rock's Tony Diaz with 621 yards in 2010. The private school state record is 599 yards by Houston Marian Christian's Rudy Rudison in 1978.

The national record is 754 yards, set by Netcong (N.J.) High School's John Giannantonio in 1950, according to the National Federation of State High Schools' record book.
State records are officially kept by Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine, and it will review the game film to make the record official.
