Tisdale finding his place at Allen
(courtesy of DMN)
Ever since Kyler Murray became a high school football legend, the quarterback position at Allen has perhaps the biggest spotlight in high school sports.

After Murray, Mitchell Jonke took the mantle and kept the standard of play high.

This season, junior Grant Tisdale took over after playing some last season and on Friday, in a close win 35-23 over a stellar Coppell team, Tisdale showed he could fill the position.

Tisdale connected on three touchdown passes of 31 yards or longer. In total, he finished the game 10 for 14 with a career-high 206 passing yards and three touchdowns.

He also made several plays with his legs, rushing 13 times for 113 yards.

"I feel like my confidence is high," Tisdale said after the game. "If my team is strong, I'm strong."

Wylie Pirates head out to support Rockport-Fulton
(courtesy of DMN)
Wylie High School held food and supply drives to aid those affected by Hurricane Harvey. That wasn't enough to satisfy students, who wanted to do more.

So Friday, with its football team having a bye and not playing this week, Wylie's Pirates will travel more than 400 miles one way to support the Pirates of Rockport-Fulton, whose community was among the hardest hit by the Category 4 hurricane and its 130-mph winds.

Sponsors and about 150 students from Wylie will take three charter buses to cheer on Rockport-Fulton when it plays Ingleside at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tuloso-Midway in Corpus Christi. Wylie will present a donation of about $5,000 -- money raised through T-shirt sales -- to Rockport-Fulton, along with about 2,000 letters and notes of encouragement.

"We're going to go down there and root for Pirates. Pirates gotta stick together," Montgomery said. "We're separated by miles and united as Pirates.

STREAKS END

South Garland ended their 25-game losing streak last Friday by beating W.T. White 46-40. Their starting RB,Jaquarion Turner, set a school record with 408 yards rushing.

State’s longest win streak ended at 49 in a row when Bremond was upset by Milano Friday.

Mind-Boggling

Central Texas’ Liberty Hill ran up an amazing 734 yards rushing, averaging 11.3 yards per carry as a team. They beat Brownwood Friday 70-49.

Stony Point forfeits two wins

(courtesy Austin American Statesman)

Stony Point is now officially winless on the season after the Tigers had to forfeit a pair of wins, according to Round Rock school district athletic director Dwayne Weirich.

Weirich did not explain the reason for Stony Point’s forfeits, but UIL spokeswoman Kate Hector informed American-Statesman correspondent Hunter Cooke that the UIL had been notified that Stony Point used an ineligible player in the two forfeited contests.

“The minimum penalty for playing an ineligible player is forfeiture of that contest,” Hector wrote in an email.

Stony Point beat Killeen 42-21 in the season opener and Killeen Ellison 42-23 in the second week of the season. The Tigers lost to Belton 24-21 last week.

The forfeits won’t affect Stony Point’s playoff chances, since both occurred during non-district play. The Tigers won’t begin their six-game slate in District 13-6A until a Sept. 29 meeting with Round Rock.

Cinco Ranch vs Katy at Legacy Stadium, 6:30, should be interesting.  I wonder if the confidence Cinco Ranch received from last years long 6A II playoff run will carry over into tonight vs. the Tigers.  RB Deondrick Glass isn't 100% for Katy as RB Josh Oglesby is starting again tonight.  The Kuithe brothers for Cinco Ranch are very good, Brant at RB and Blake at DE.  Should be a fun one.
