What happened to "Burnt ends"?

Recommended Posts

I go away for a little while, come back and it's gone.

I had a little news I was going to tell, but decided to just let the mods have it.  Which I did.

That being said, I don't know where they will put it.

Okay, I will use this thread to poll a little.  With the hiring of Herman and his coaches and the evidently reshaping of the teams attitude and dedication to detail.  And with the one year maturation of last years returnee's and the new building of our depth at positions of need (excluding TE's), and the spring game behind us.

What is the prediction of the upcoming seasons games?

I will give you mine, once again

Maryland - first game sloppiness, as usual, but no way in hell will UT let a team with uni's as ugly as theirs beat us.

39 - 12 -  UT

San Diego State - Really?  A curb stomping cometh for the left coasters

45 - 10 - UT

USC - Once again we are playing a bunch of left coast hippie/commies that all the pundits think they are the best thing since Obama.  Remember the "Greatest college team ever"?  You know, the team we handed their asses to?

28-24 - UT

Iowa State - Our team is now battle tested and getting pretty salty.  Bad news for the Iowa's.

38 - 7  - UT

Kansas State -  The wizard abides, but we play them at Austin

42 - 24 - UT

Oklahoma - Including last year and this years recruiting, Stoops is 0 - 4 against Herman.  Herman doesn't like Stoops and has said so - at least privately, so I have heard.

31 - 28 - UT

Oklahoma State -  99% of the times that OSU has been favored, we have broken their hearts.  If they are favored this year (which by this time, it should be us that is favored), we will cause them heartbreak again.

27 - 14 - UT

Baylor - The disgrace of the conference and the state will get curb stomped.

52 - 10 - UT

TCU - They just won't go away and Patterson is a disgusting, sweating, fat pig - but one of the top 3 coaches in the nation.

17 - 10 - TCU

Kansas -  Oh, yeah, baby.  Do we ever owe them - as they will find out.

38 - 0 - UT

West Virginia - Can't get a handle on a team that is coached by an alcoholic, but knows a thing or two about offense.  However...

52 - 41 - UT

Texas Tech - The Techies will just be going through the motions as they know their coach will soon be gone.

49 - 10 - UT

So, there you have it, children.  Prove me wrong.

Doc is drinking the kool aide! As the season gets closer we will put out some of our predictions for the season, but as of right now I'm not picking Texas over USC.

As far as Burnt Ends goes, we will have one coming out soon from Will as he's been traveling on the road collecting notes and interviews.

You've been reading too much of ESPN and the west coast talking heads.  And what does getting closer to the game have to do with it?  You think Maryland and San Diego will make a difference?

Sure, USC has a good team.  So do we. Better than you think.

They will score some points, but they will get sick of Warren and C. Johnson.

And by the 3rd qtr. that over hyped QB will be sick of Malik.  He has never been up against an LB that is faster than he is. Nor anyone like McCulloch who will try to tear his head off.

He'll be scrambling alright - but to save his life and not to pass the ball.

Doc, got to bust your chops a little bit ;)

We probably would curb-stomp San Diego State but how do you think we will do in the 2nd game of the when we play San Jose State?

Is that little bit of news you gave the mods what you were talking about several weeks that you said you were trying to triangulate?

I'll be back later for my take on the season.

Ha, ha - you got me alright, but San Diego or San Jose - what's the diff?

Yes, I have supportive evidence.  It has to do with UT's position on Baylor and the conference in general.  I like this site and I want it to stay alive so I feed tid bits now and then to the mods.

Keep in mind that even though the old bastards that are internally connected to UT give me info now and then, they still are mostly expressing opinion them selves.  So, sometimes a lot can be lost between the tongue and the lip.

But I have been told, to confirm what has been reported here, that we are going to be very happy with this years recruiting.  And, if we win like I think we will, we will be orgasmic.  Texas will be back like the days of Mack's hay days.  And I heard one more thing,......nah, never mind, there are too many on here that pooh pooh silent commits.

I'll tell the mods, who I think already know anyway.

I can't see us beating USC. They came together at the end of the season last year and were probably in the top 3 in the nation by then. And we're at their place. But I'll have whatever you're having, regardless. lol

I don't see us losing to TCU. I can't stand them but I give them their props. Texas is a game that means more to them than it has to us in the past. That has to change. And I think it will under Herman.

Aside from USC, I'd look at OSU as a potential second loss. They are going to be better, a more complete team, than OU.

Of course, an injury here and there to one of those teams, all those teams, or us – and nothing I just posted means anything. lol I really means nothing right now. lol

So you think were only going to lose one game, well I wouldn't bet the farm on that. I believe we can have a one lost season, however I don't believe we will.

It's the combination of Herman's bloody Tuesday's practice and our lack of depth. I read an article after Herman became coach about his practice's and the two games they lost in the middle of the season against Navy and SMU they had 6 or 7 players out. We have already seen that we only had one RB for the spring game.

Also, they lost their last game of the year against Memphis and the players had said they were exhausted.

My guess would be we start strong and could beat USC, even though they have a QB who is listed as a top 3 draft pick for next year's draft. After that it depends on how many injuries we have and who has them. I'm sure Tom Herman knows about practices more than I do, however I do know that these practices make it more likely we will have more injuries. There's a big difference between having a player like Connor Williams out there than his backup.

Great stuff doc.

Until you held out on the silent commit. But I understand that.

There are two that I know of - one is a de-commit from OU and a 2019 grad and one is an OOS player.

But, hey, we are going to get a slew pot full of them from Houston - you know this.

My recruiting info is trickle down from a bunch of drunken old reprobates, so take it with a grain of salt.

I love the attitude Herman's instilling in the team.  I really like both the offensive and defensive schemes.  I don't think UT's as deep as Herman would like, but if the injury bug doesn't bite too much, there's enough talent to make it an interesting season.

Notice I said interesting...not undefeated.  Herman has a tendency for his teams to drop a game they shouldn't, and also to win one they're not favored to.  My crystal ball says between OU, USC, OSU, and TCU, UT will go 2-2, but don't ask me which two UT beats.  I think WVU and KSU can go either way, though I favor UT in both, not knowing how the rest of the season plays out.  Baylor's really pissed at UT, but I don't think they have the hosses to win this year.

Conservatively, I think UT wins nine games, and build up recruiting momentum that will lead to a top ten, if not top five class.  I think this year Herman lays the foundation for what will be a scary good team two or three years down the road, but I'm not into drinking Doc's Kool-Aid just yet.

If you understand that I am no privileged character, just acquainted with a couple of guys that are,   Guys (and gals) that own these kinds of sites do this for a living.  I would starve to death if I had to.

Meaning they are constantly getting info from their contacts and sources and my info is usually  3rd or 4th hand and heavily influenced by opinion anyway.

But, that being said, sometimes we get lucky.

Silent commits, to me, are kids that really want to go to UT and want the coaches to know that, unless something dramatic happens, UT is where they will be signing.  They want their intentions to be kept secret because they want to enjoy the trappings of being recruited as well as their parents.  They, also, don't want their GF's, opposing coaches, their high school coaches and even their friends to know where they intend to go.  My info comes from guys that have not said to keep it quite, but it is just understood it is not our place to reveal information that others may want to keep confidential.

My problem, however, is I am a basic gossip and I have to work at keeping my big mouth shut.

Doc,

Have you heard any rumblings, as I have as of a few weeks back . . of the possibility of Texas giving the conference an ultimatum regarding Baylor? I have heard this, as well as the possibility of Texas leaving the Big 12 and going independent (at least for the time being). I have heard that Texas is ticked and is ready to tell the Big 12 they go or we go.

Anything you've heard sound remotely like that?

I'll hang up and listen . . .

I've heard a few things.  The mods can elaborate.

But Texas isn't going independent.

And all I can say as I have been saying, hinting and outright screaming - follow the money.  Sometimes when it come to realignment or bolting conferences or standing pat - following the money is like a neon sign telling you what is likely to happen.  The only unknown is when and not if.

Get my drift?

Well, you tell me. lol. I'm not sure.

The money . . . the money is not getting better for the Big 12 with Baylor taking all these hits. The product is diminished. I can see Texas being upset, being a part of a diminished product and affecting its own bottom line.

Some time ago, "money" would have me suggesting Texas throw themselves at the SEC and get two-network coverage (3 if you count CBS) in addition to LHN, if LHN survived the move. But EPSN is going broke, nobody likes them much anymore, and thus their influence will be well, diminished.

SO, this is where I'm looking for a map because I'm lost. ACC? Big10? PAC12? SuperDuper New Conference?

Thing is, IF Texas is REALLY serious about the stand they're making, they'll not be able to wait a whole lot longer before they outright appear okay with things and the situation with the conference.

Am I warm?
