#4 Sam Ehlinger will play this week, according to his coach Todd Dodge.

Ok, for real this time

Coach announces his QB will play this week
Ok, so Ehlinger didn’t play last week and we said right here last week that he would. LOL But this time, we really mean it! LOL

“Sam has been released by his doctor and will start this week against Hays,†said Westlake head coach Todd Dodge today in an interview with the Austin American-Statesman.

Ehlinger said last week that it was “always the plan†to play against Vandegrift, last week’s district opening tilt. He suited up and was on the sidelines, but did not play. The Chaps won behind another strong performance of TB Nakia Watson, who again eclipsed the 100 yard mark in their 17-10 win over the Vipers.

Ehlinger has now missed four games since the season opening win over defending state champion Katy.

YET ANOTHER EAST TEXAS SHOWDOWN

Leave it to East Texas to keep producing big games. It seldom disappoints. This week’s version pitts Class 4A powerhouses #3 Carthage and #8 Henderson – long time rivals who are both undefeated.

Carthage has built itself quite a resume, having a win over a previously ranked Liberty-Eylau (34-20) on the road and then defeated powerful Gilmer 55-37 at home.

Henderson began their season by knocking off Atlanta, 44-13. Atlanta was predicted to battle for their district title during preseason. They then knocked out both Tatum and Pittsburg by lopsided scores.

Both schools will easily go to the playoffs, but this is a district game and the winner will likely be the title winner. Game is set for 7:30 in Carthage on Friday.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY SCORER

Sweetwater’s Kobe Clark has achieved what few others will during last Friday night’s 80-38 win over Pecos. Clark, a junior, scored four times in four different ways.

Clark picked up a fumble and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown. He also caught a 44-yd touchdown pass. He then returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown. And then returned an interception 52 yards for another score.

Not bad for one night’s work, eh?

HOW GOOD IS CIBOLO STEELE?

Everyone expected a barn burner last Friday night when both state ranked Converse Judson and Cibolo Steele met. But that’s certainly not what happened. Shocking was the way with which Steele handled Judson, beating the Rockets 30-9 in a game the Knights completely dominated.

It is even more impressive when you consider the fact that this happened with Steele’s starting QB Xavier Martin on the sidelines with an injury. Backup QB Cody Massey filled in nicely, passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

THE SHOWDOWN THAT WAS NOT

Kennedale was highly ranked going into this season. A couple of injuries and slip ups have resulted in two losses. The season began with a 21-20 win over a talented Terrell team. However, the next week nearby rival Alvarado upset them 21-14 and then dropped a 34-21 decision to Whitehouse.

So the luster this week’s game with #1 ranked West Orange Stark in Nacogdoches once had is no longer there. West Orange Stark has been destroying everything in their path so far this season. Kennedale is no longer ranked.

Carthage vs Henderson
Euless Trinity vs Southlake Carroll

Alright, our starting QB, SHA, is a scratch for today's activities....he's abandoning his team so he can go to some lame homecoming thing. Whatever. So, I, the last resort WR, am subbing in for him. If y'all want updates on a specific school, just let me know!
