Sirhornsalot
Ok, well, forgive me if this has already been posted. Anyone remember the 8 p.m. thing (NSD) that Malik referred to? There are two 2017 recruits who were planning to commit to the Horns. Charlie asked them not to, but to let the 2016 class have their day. So it's been postponed to another day. Not sure if that's been planned yet or not. I was told Dobbins was one of them. He didn't know who the second one was. And that's a smart move by Charlie to tell the 2017 recruits to not commit yet. Do you feel like Charlie is going to take the same approach with the 2017 recruits like he did with the 2016 recruits? I think so. I just think it's what Charlie prefers to do. And I think he's right when he speaks of a commitment in many cases being just a "reservation." So why go through all that? You'll have a few who are of the mindset that they can commit and hang up the phone until NSD. Those are the ones we'll collect along the way. As you can see, when a recruit backs out and goes elsewhere, it looks bad. Make sure they want to be here. And apply the full court press during the last month. There was a LOT of negative press, in the DMN, in ESPN, and elsewhere prior to NSD about the Horns. There were other schools who typically finish hard late who were sagging in the pack. Well, that was just business as usual. Hopefully, the media has learned the same about Charlie Strong. CCausey11

CharcoalPuppy
So I got an idea of who could be the next running back coach,Claude Mathis from SMU. He was coaching high school last year. It would fit the trend of Charlie hiring Texas High School coaches.

Monsieur ATX
and more goodwill from the THSCA😎 I think it's safe to say the staff has officially locked down the DFW area in my honest opinion. We did good in the Houston area though CharcoalPuppy

I think if you're wanting to go to the high school ranks again, you gotta give McGuire a call again. hornag

Sirhornsalot
Where does McGuire hail from? He's the HC at Cedar Hill, which sits next to DeSoto where Mathis coached. I know Mathis has a sexy record, but other than that I've seldom heard much good said about him. Discipline always seemed to be a weakness with his teams. Take a look around. Given the number of "prospects" DeSoto has churched out – where are they now? Exactly. McGuire was Coach Strong's first call before he hired Traylor from Gilmer. McGuire turned Charlie down, but sweated bullets doing it. McGuire is a player's coach, his players love him. Very smart, creative and disciplined. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I saw where someone posted a tweet on this board from Joey McGuire thanking Charlie Strong for stopping by. I thought right then that Charlie might be circling back to talk to him about a job.....seeing how good Jeff Traylor seems to be working out.
