MBHORNSFAN
I thought the Cunbie and Texas was such a good thread that I should go ahead and start one for Gilbert. Let the fun begin. pringlelake, SpCozer and DBut82

mctmatt
The more I think about hiring an OC the more I think why would you want this job if you cannot be sure who the Coach might be in 2017. Best to stay put as i really feel Charlie will be gone by the end of next year and we start this whole mess all over again.

Are you seriously asking why someone (like Gilbert) would want to be OC at Texas? Versus co-OC at Tulsa? primal defense and Godz40acres
Hiphopopotamos
Posted this elsewhere - but this thread seems appropriate: Important to remember - when Dino Babers left Baylor he hired Gilbert to help him install and run the offense at EIU. When Babers left for Bowling Green he brought Gilbert with him to install and run the offense. And when Phil Montgomery finally left Baylor to be Head Coach at Tulsa he hired away Gilbert to install and help run the offense. That three 'installations' in 5 years that Gilbert has been a part of - I don't think he'll have any problem installing the offense here. EIU spokesman also confirmed that Gilbert called plays in 2012 & 2013. CCausey11, J.B. TexasEx, UT1983 and 6 others

texasdalton
Weird that i have a positive vibe from Gilbert but i do. I think he stands a good chance of making a name of himself, if the light comes on for whoever is QB.
texasdalton
looking at tulsa's stats from this last season, it would appear that they leaned on there running game more so than passing game.

Hiphopopotamos
The Oline coach needs to be a better recruiter. I don't think it's as big a deal so long as everyone else are top notch recruiters. There's always going to be one or two dogs on the staff who arent ace recruiters. It wasn't just that Wickline didn't recruit - it was that no one else on the offensive staff recruited either (at least until Traylor and Norvell showed up). Under normal circumstances i agree but Strong is on a very short leash, he only has so much time to prove that he is worth keeping. Say he somehow gets 8 wins next season and gets to coach another season, he sure as hell wont make it any further if they don't start getting some dominate recruits on the Oline and molding them quickly. The offensive line coach better be an ACE or Coach Strong wont make it past next season. Bear19
drgilbert
I am not sure the oline coach has to be a great recruiter either. I thought I read that Chavis was a poor recruiter but he always had talented kids playing for him. I realize Chavis is defense but the rule should apply to either side of the ball UTK66

Sounds like his potential staff would also bring more Texas ties.
