Seeing so many freshmen on the 2-deep was a sign of trouble, butt not one that would indicate what happened last night.   What happened in South Bend wasn't a personnel problem.

I doubt it as well.  Im sure Rice has to be thinking this is their chance.

 

 

Im afraid this will hurt recruiting next year but then again it didnt really hurt last year.  But our lack of 5 star OL and DL commits has been pretty bad the last few years.  Conner Williams is our best OL and hes a freshman.  I hope the staff can pull in high profile DL another Malcom Brown.

 

Im looking forward to Buechelle and Ehlinger coming to campus then we will have 5 Legit QB's:  Heard, Locksley, Buechelle, Merrick, and Ehlinger.

If you suddenly had taken over this team, what would have been the first or the first two things you would have tried to fix?

IMO, any reasonable person would have put the issues of OL and QB on the front burner as "red hot."

The hypothetical reasonable person would have leveled the earth to get some guys to Austin to quick fix these spots. In whatever way possible. 

Did Strong and Wickline make that effort when they arrived?  Or did they simply think they could coach up Mack's leftovers, given what good coaches they are?

People say Wickline doesn't like recruiting.  If so, then hiring him under these circumstances may have been one of Strong's fatal flaws.

Well I would have focused QB, OL, and DL

 

1.  Knowing Ash was the only real experienced QB and had issues with concussions.  

 

2.  I would have went after JUCO OL when they first arrived.  Two years ago.  Wickline can coach up 3 stars but IMO the 2 best OL as of right now are Williams and Vahe.  Vahe will take time to pass protect hes mostly a grunt run blocker.  He will get there, but I am not impressed at with Doyle, Flowers, and Perkins.  They are too slow or not strong enough and get pushed around.  I found it interesting Hodges couldnt beat out one of those guys.  Ronnie Major has promise to but enrolled late.  Mack left the talent depleted but the staff was NOT a SHAKA SMART when they got here.  But since they didnt last year was a total waste of time.  I havent been impressed with Wickline so far, but then Conner is an example of promise.

 

3.  I like Poona and Ridgeway but we need more bodies especially if this up tempo produces more 3 and outs more quickly.  We need bodies there.

I wanted to puke from Ahmad Brooks comments regarding Swoopes and Heard.  I couldnt believe he actually said Heard hasnt done anything to win the job from Swoopes.  You have earn it blah blah.

 

LMAO someone please tell me what Swoopes has done to KEEP the job?

 

As SHA and Tejasrules have pointed out the definition of insanity is repeating something over and over expecting a different result.

 

Therefore Watson and Strong are insane when it comes to Swoopes.

 

I find it also interesting how good KState is every year when they get ZERO high profile recruits.  Somewhere in the range of 20 walkons?  Maybe Charlie should hire Bill Snyder as a consultant.

Or how far TCU/Baylor get with their "poorly-ranked" classes

more game numbers --

 

ND was our 2nd worst opening loss in history
 
It was also the 3rd straight loss by 20+ points (for the 1st time history)
 
The last 2 games are our worst back-to-back offensive games since 1950
 
ND 364 more yards than us -- 3rd worst differential since 1950

Outside of the top 25-30 '5-star' players - those rankings are meaningless.

 

By the numbers the ND and Texas rosters are very similar (in regards to recruiting rankings), but any person with common sense can see that Texas roster isn't close to being as talented as ND's.
