Juan
A loss to Rice (who put up 56 points last night, admittedly against a shyte team) and the dam will burst. Hard to predict what all it will wash downstream when it does.
Juan
Tonight it seemed more like the d was being run by Irene Ryan than Buddy Ryan. Granny for DC
CharcoalPuppy
I woke up this morning wondering if my thoughts last night were just a knee jerk reaction or an overreaction. Nope. And, like tejas, I found some of the comments from Strong, Watson, and Bedford to be quite curious or borderline stupid to say the least. I'm sick of Strong's rhetoric... " You gotta run the ball. You gotta play good defense. You gotta control the clock." That's all fine and dandy but you also have to put your players in the best position to win and SCORE SOME POINTS. Shit, SMU scored 3 td's on Baylor with their personnel and Chad Morris is in his first year....What does that say about Texas ? It's not the 70's anymore, Charlie, get with the times. . CharcoalPuppy
I mean why put Swoopes back in after Jerrod Heard gave the offense a spark ? Why was Jonathan Gray so underutilized ? and a million other things I can't remember right now..

Hard to predict what all it will wash downstream when it does. Rice isn't the old Rice anymore. They won 8 last year with a blowout bowl win. The crowd is going to be grumpy from the start and if the game starts badly, it might get ugly at DKR.
North Texas Golfer
Saw this on another site so, again, I can't vouch for the accuracy. This is for the last 3 games against TCU, Arky, and ND. Note that the other teams' defense has outscored our offense. Yet, according to Watson, the offense is making progress. primal defense
I just saw that Burton said that Watson needs to be fired. Can't say I disagree. We were sold that we were running the spread this year. Instead it looked like the same crappy offense from the Arkansas game.
Juan
I guess that's the Watson "improvement" -- no turnovers last night. Buuuut, giving up 38 points with no turnovers makes the defense look even worse.

We were sold that we were running the spread this year. Instead it looked like the same crappy offense from the Arkansas game. It is the same offense, we just sped it up. We practiced snap timing to cut the length of time between snaps. They were measuring it and can quote you the elapsed time average.

Said Norvell was just like Watson. That's why Stoops fired him. Stoops went back to the Mike Leach offense to where the system does not depend on having a five star QB. Mike Leach at Texas Tech always had good QB play even though none of his QB's could play in the NFL. DMAC and CharcoalPuppy

I would say Traylor but he's fresh out of the high school ranks. That only leaves Wickline and Robinson.

TexCoyote
Is anyone one else besides me surprised that there weren't more hard licks dished out by us? I cant remember seeing very many at all. I didn't expect to get dominated physically.....again

All the preseason hype about being a big hitter, but he was a big whiffer instead. Our defense is missing Hicks, Diggs, Big Mac.

CharcoalPuppy
"In his first season as Sam Houston State’s offensive coordinator, Phil Longo directed a Bearkat attack that led the Southland Conference in rushing and red zone offense and ranked among the top 25 FCS teams nationally in scoring, rushing and total offense." "Longo's offense became only the ninth team in the history of FCS football surpass 7,000 yards in total offense. The offense recorded the second highest rushing total (3,866 yds) in school history and the third highest passing total (3,287 yds) in school history, all in the same season." "As offensive coordinator at Slippery Rock, his “Air Raid†offense led the 16-team Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in scoring and total offense, averaging 43.3 points and 536.5 yards. The no-huddle attack finished fourth nationally in total offense, sixth in passing offense and eighth in both scoring and first downs."

I just posted this on another thread, not noticing this thread. "Hell, I vividly remember the first football game I went to when we moved to the Lake Travis area. The other team had just scored with about 45 seconds to go in the first half. I (ignorantly looking back) expected Lake Travis to take the kickoff and run out the clock. Lake Travis proceeded to run and throw its way down the field to score another touchdown with about 10 seconds to go in the half. I was shocked. Obviously, I knew nothing of Chad Morris… and what he was capable of. Just saying'… you never know what someone's capable of, until you give them a chance. Lots of top current D1 coaches were once Texas HS head coaches. Can't be any worse than what we witnessed last night…"
