PD, thats a political opinion from a liberal site. At the least, its ill advised to copy them and attempt to politicize a virus.
What the story doesn't try to say is the US has a higher standard of healthcare available than any nation in the world. Why would we buy WHO tests when we have always created our own?
When a new virus comes on the scene, the host country of origin will send out the code for the new virus. From that, other countries across the world are able to generate their own tests and also begin developing a medicinal remedy. Whoever gets there first, shares the remedy with the rest of the world.

joeywa got a reaction from Aaron Carrara in NCAA on COVID-19: "Eligibility relief is appropriate for spring sports"
While the idea itself is probably the right thing to do, the possible long-term implications will be something to watch. Logistically speaking, going from baseball roster sizes of ~35 to possibly 50 creates concern. Funding of additional scholarships is an issue. If HS baseball season is cancelled, there’s a strong likelihood that some of the seniors that would be strong candidates to leave for the draft out of HS will instead come to campus. Scholarship limits will have to be waived and adjusted. What will be the limit on numbers?  Will this affect the current 11.7 scholarships moving forward?  What about how the locker rooms are set up?  Currently there are prob ~40 lockers available at UT. What do you do for the extra 10 players?  How do coaches manage their rosters with a possible increase of 25%?  What about equipment and uniforms?  Increased costs. For schools like Texas, where baseball makes money, that might be less of an issue, but what about smaller schools without the resources of a UT?

If the NCAA doesn’t handle this correctly, and I have very little faith that they will based on history, this could be an astronomical failure for college baseball. And I’m only talking about baseball. There are all the other Spring sports to think about as well.

Here’s an updated statement from Texas AD Chris DelConte:
Statement from UT Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte:
“We spent today talking to our coaches and as many of the student-athletes and teams as possible. I thought it was imperative that we shared with them all of the facts as we know them and what the next steps are. It’s an extremely difficult time for them, and we certainly share their pain and disappointment. But it’s also important for them to understand the magnitude of the situation and that these decisions are being made in the best interest of everyone’s health, safety and well-being. It is an unprecedented time in college athletics and it’s imperative we make every effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).
“The most significant news of the day came this evening when, in addition to the Big 12’s previously announced suspension of athletics activities until March 29, the conference also decided to cancel all athletic competition for the remainder of the spring season. It was a hard piece of news to share with our teams since they’ve worked so hard in preparation for this year. The situation is still fluid as practices and other team activities remain suspended until March 29, but will be re-evaluated by the Big 12 at that time. Additionally, the NCAA is in discussion on how they’ll handle eligibility status for current winter and spring sports student-athletes.
“The other key update from our end is our response to campus extending spring break an additional week until March 29. During that time, we’re encouraging student-athletes to go home and take care of themselves, understanding that some will need to remain on campus. The dorms will continue to be available and dining halls are accessible, as well, but there will be no practice, strength and conditioning work, athletic training room availability or team functions. However, our sports medicine staff will be available for our student-athletes to contact remotely.
“While the student-athletes are on break, our medical personnel will be developing mitigation strategies for athletics activities in anticipation of their return to campus. All facilities, dorms and the dining hall will be thoroughly deep-cleaned and sanitized to provide the safest possible environment for when they return. We are monitoring this situation in concert with our campus administration and the health and government agencies they are working with. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.”

Interesting how not enough tests are available, and they are not attainable, but the Utah Jazz were able to get 50 tests for their team in a heart beat following the Gobert situation.

The coronavirus  virus is not  media driven. Some of the facts that have come is that 80% of the public will have mild symptoms. However if your over 60 or older than the risk goes up including death.    The Seattle nursing home had one third of the residents die since they were older and had other health issues.   The unfortunate part is that the US is behind other countries as far as testing and that's one of the key ways of containing the virus which is hard to do because it's so contagious. Also, with our lack of testing we could have a cluster of cases for the hospitals which they many not be able to handle which is going on in Italy which means some could die because of the lack of medical care.   If your 60 or older and especially if you have some other health issue I would recommend you build up your immune system as much as you can to fight it off. When people do get the virus the body goes into over drive of inflammation. If your healthy then you can fight it off. However if your immune system is compromise or your older then the inflammation response is too much to fight and your lungs are affected which could lead to difficulty in breathing and which could lead to death.   Some of the things that you can do to fight the virus is to make sure your Vitamin D3 levels are not low. Vitamin D is very important for the immune system and respiratory system.    Also to build up the immune system or if you get the virus then high levels of vitamin C every hour will help fight the virus and the inflammation. Right now I'm taking 15 grams a day. Studies have shown that when you get a cold or the flu your need for Vitamin C goes up. Oregano oil is another virus fighter and anti inflammation.    Good luck to  and I hope everyone can ride this out in good health.

The Texas Longhorns baseball team currently sits at 13-3 with their losses coming by just four combined runs. The program has been the model of consistency for the past century. Six national championships, a winning percentage of 73% and only four losing seasons this decade.
Last season though, the Longhorns took a bit of a stumble with a 27-27 record. This year, albeit its still early, is showing signs of an insurgence. Next season, the outlook already looks bright for David Pierce and his club, as Texas holds claim to one of the top recruiting classes in the nation.
Petey Halpin is one reason why. The star outfielder from California announced his decision to play in Austin back in September of last year.
“I loved the environment in Texas. From the fans to the love for the sport and the killer barbecue,” Halpin said on his reasoning to commit to UT. “Also I have always wanted to live outside of California and I think Texas is a great fit for me.”
Petey is currently in San Mateo, California where last year he hit nearly .300 for 17 runs batted in and a pair of home runs for St. Francis High School. He’s currently at Mira Costa High School. Halpin also competed in the inaugural High School MLB All-star game last year in Cleveland.
“What leads to my personal success is hard work and never putting too much pressure on myself,” Halpin said. “Baseball is a game of failure so you have to learn from your mistakes and constantly get better every day.”
Halpin, one of the best outfielders in the country, joins a loaded 2020 UT baseball class that also includes other top recruits such as Carson Tucker, Jared Kelley, and Tanner Witt.
“My main goal is winning the national championship,” Halpin said. “We have a great freshman class and I know the guys in my class are extremely strong and passionate.”
Skipper David Pierce has done an exceptional job with the program in a short amount of time. Considering all the talent that continues to make its way to Austin, the Longhorns are primed for success for the foreseeable future.
Texas hasn’t been to a College World Series Final since 2009. They haven’t won the Big 12 tournament since 2015. Pierce and the Longhorns look to get back to their dominant ways and it may all start with Petey Halpin and the 2020 recruiting class.
