Lewisville distillery making hand cleaner for community during COVID-19 crisis
Hand sanitizer is hard to come by during the coronavirus outbreak. Bendt Distilling Co. is making hand cleaner and giving it to people for free.   LEWISVILLE, Texas — With coronavirus spreading, this week has been a change of pace for Natasha DeHart. She and her husband own Bendt Distilling Company in Lewisville.
Over the weekend, they stopped the tasting hall, tours and events at the distillery.
"Essentially half of our staff just became unemployed," said Natasha. "Yeah. We're all scared."
She's been doing everything she can to keep her shop clean, and noticed how hard it is to find hand sanitizer in stores. Natasha decided to make her own hand cleaner and give it to her staff.
She decided to make some for law enforcement, first responders, nearby businesses and even customers too.
"It's made with the first spirit that comes off the still, and it's not really suitable for consumption. It's very high proof," she said.
Natasha dilutes it with water, xanthan gum and a drop of essential oil for smell. She said it contains 70 percent alcohol, more than the 60 percent minimum recommended by the CDC.
"It just became obvious that there was a bigger problem and so we started looking at ways that we might be able to fulfill that need," said Natasha.
Word spread about this project. In three days, her team handed out more than 1,500 free bottles of hand cleaner.
She bought as many plastic 4-ounce bottles as she could find, but quickly ran out. On Wednesday, she resorted to mini liquor bottles as a way to keep going.
She said, "They don't have the convenient dispenser top, but we will do what we can. We will keep handing them out."
Even though her business is feeling the impact of the COVID-19, Natasha hopes the free hand cleaners will help the community through this crisis.

I'm sure they'd love to see you buy some bourbon right now.
Its on Charles St in old town Lewisville, located where the old Piggly Wiggly used to be. Its roughly one block or so south of downtown.

Well now, I cannot speak for any hogwash cockamammie story like orders for whiskey being slowed to a crawl.  I am doing my part and supporting the bourbon industry, likely to the chagrin of my lovely wife.

I can agree with this 100%!  Idk about you @joeywa but I've been drinking plenty of whiskey and smoking plenty of meats! LOL!  @Sirhornsalot, I had no clue there was a whiskey distillery in Lewisville.  I work in Coppell.  Can I swing by and grab a bottle during this "shelter in place"?

This is very important, and good on you for doing this.
Also, one thing to remember about this, not only are the restaurants in need of the support, there is an entire community of suppliers that provide goods and services to restaurants that are feeling a mighty pinch right now.  All of that food, drinks, paper and cleaning supplies as well as the companies that distribute this to each restaurant are part of this.  The foodservice industry will be forever changed when this is over.  And I fear not in a good way.

Denton County has now issued a Shelter in Place order, effective at midnight. We have seen a rise in the number of cases here, now at over 30 I believe. However, some of that can be attributed to more people being tested.
After looking over the order as well as the National Landscape Association's statement on this, it appears that my company is an essential service and will not have to cease operations. This is good news as long as people in my company remain uninfected. So far, so good.
My wife and I have been ordering out almost every night. A lot of restaurants have had to close their dining rooms but are still offering carry out. They need our help to stay afloat.

FYI, if you’re so inclined, our friends at Black Sheep Lodge and Haymaker have had to close. They have two separate fund raisers going on.

Nice video, but they should have used the graphics with this moment of zen from a leader far more important to Longhorn football that just Tom Herman.
A moment of zen from our true leader.

PD, thats a political opinion from a liberal site. At the least, its ill advised to copy them and attempt to politicize a virus.
What the story doesn't try to say is the US has a higher standard of healthcare available than any nation in the world. Why would we buy WHO tests when we have always created our own?
When a new virus comes on the scene, the host country of origin will send out the code for the new virus. From that, other countries across the world are able to generate their own tests and also begin developing a medicinal remedy. Whoever gets there first, shares the remedy with the rest of the world.

joeywa got a reaction from Aaron Carrara in NCAA on COVID-19: "Eligibility relief is appropriate for spring sports"
While the idea itself is probably the right thing to do, the possible long-term implications will be something to watch. Logistically speaking, going from baseball roster sizes of ~35 to possibly 50 creates concern. Funding of additional scholarships is an issue. If HS baseball season is cancelled, there’s a strong likelihood that some of the seniors that would be strong candidates to leave for the draft out of HS will instead come to campus. Scholarship limits will have to be waived and adjusted. What will be the limit on numbers?  Will this affect the current 11.7 scholarships moving forward?  What about how the locker rooms are set up?  Currently there are prob ~40 lockers available at UT. What do you do for the extra 10 players?  How do coaches manage their rosters with a possible increase of 25%?  What about equipment and uniforms?  Increased costs. For schools like Texas, where baseball makes money, that might be less of an issue, but what about smaller schools without the resources of a UT?

If the NCAA doesn’t handle this correctly, and I have very little faith that they will based on history, this could be an astronomical failure for college baseball. And I’m only talking about baseball. There are all the other Spring sports to think about as well.
