I thought this was well worth sharing, from a poster on Ok. st. board.

I've known Joe for several years. Fantastic coach and person. His loss will be devastating to OSU.

He WILL be your favorite coach on Strong's staff. Quite approachable and one hell of a great guy.

He

is a tireless recruiter, who's best strength lies in his ability to

evaluate/project talent. Prime example of this would be Devin Davis,

OSU's injured LT.

Joe found this future 1st-rounder on a basketball

court in Nacadoches. Kid was a 6'6" x 235# TE with ZERO ofcers. Had wick

stayed, Devin woukd almost assuredly been a 1st-round pick in the NFL

draft.

One thing you guys will enjoy is watching Wick coach. At

most any school visitors to practices like to watch the QBs throw or the

RBs run thru drills. Not so in Stillwater. Wick is a rock star with OSU

fandom. His "grass-coaching" personna is a blend between Rodney

Daingerfield and that teacher/coach/relative you have/had who set their

bar of expectations just a little higher than you though possible. In

short, Wick does NOT pat his kids on the back or tell the press how

great his OL unit will be. No. He'll have all of Texas fandom believing

the worst. After a couple seasons this will become an understood fact

and you all will chuckle and say "Oh that Wick. What a kidder."

But

KNOW THIS.........his OLs are very prepared and very

efficient......even when he has what would appear to your average poster

to be below-average recruits.

Finally......don't be upset if Joe passes on a stud or two for an absolute nobody.........

It's just Dr Frankenstein heading off to the lab to be Dr Frankenstein. This is when he often does his best work.

Joe's

a great guy, too. Years ago Wick looked at a 6'7" kid who Wick had no

room for. The kid wanted to play D-1 ball but Wick was out of spots.

(Late Fall) So Wick calls up an OL coaching frriend of his at Iowa

State. They have a slot available. Then, his Sr season, ISU ruins OSUs

perfect fall. His parents never bring that up though. They are just

thankful that Joe went that extra mile for their son.

Anyway,

losing Wick off this staff has damned near ruined my OSU Football life.

I'm just devastated. One of the greatest coaches we've ever had is gone.

I've never understood why we did hold back 5-7 ship for guys like this.. .pure developmental guys. . .of course I've never understood why we didn't look at more power forward types. . .I've talked with several former coaches from the TEXAS staffs over the years who would love to do this but lots of pressure to recruit 4/5 star guys. .

Hope Coach Strong sticks to his guns. . .he's done well developing "non sure fire hits". . .

Nice post, and Wickline will make a great addition to the staff...IF he comes. I'll wait to get excited when I see it from a more official source, like ESPN or CBS. Until then, it's nothing but internet chatter.

For what it's worth, I just saw a post elsewhere claiming Jeff Howe of 247 says Wickline to the good guys is official. I'M not saying it's official, because I don't have a 247 account, but if you do, you might wanna check things out, since Howe's report is behind a pay wall.

No worries at all, I was busy refreshing all three of the boards. I just never made my way over here, as most folks here seem to also frequent OB. I am just glad to see it out there, heck of a write up. I was glad that someone at OSU was willing to give us some background on Wickline (akaRCPorky)

O-bloods, IT, BOB. I do love to read the Shag on occasion however never posted there. The wife thinks I am obsessed a bit, I call it fun!
