Look, I wanted Saban as the next Texas coach as much as anyone. But, it is pretty clear that that is not happening. We, as fans, need to take his picture off the mirror and burn that Longhorn jersey that we were waiting for him to sign. We asked him to prom, and he went with someone else. We need to stop being the pathetic dudes that pine after the girl that spurned us, no matter the promises she made to us all along. The fact is that UT didn't break up with the old girlfriend even though it promised it would. You get it. Enough with the analogies. To hell with Saban. Okay, one more analogy. We'll find someone else. And she'll be younger and hotter. Hopefully, we'll get the chance to parade her out and show him we are better off for his not signing on here. But enough of that.
There is work to be done now. We need to get rid of Mack, and soon. Saban's comments that he was never interested in Texas has done us a bit of a favor. For the less informed, it makes it look like much ado about nothing, regardless of whether it, in fact, was. It enables Mack to leave making it look like it's his idea. It lets UT get a top notch coach without the expectations that come along with a coach who has done nothing but win national championships (well, not this year). I think when the Saban story has had a chance to fade from the national spotlight (a day or two, really), Mack will announce that he's done---Monday or Tuesday, I would guess. The Oregon game will be his last, and maybe the kids can whistle up some luck to fight for their coach's last game so we won't get beaten by much.
From there, we can roll out Ms. Right instead of Ms. Right now.
Like Scipio Tex, I like the idea of Jim Harbaugh. But any number of top candidates can be winners here at Texas.
