This from True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto:

This is really early, but I'll tell you (it's about) hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.
WTF..That makes no sense at all.

The we have this nugget from Hollywood Life

we may have a leading candidate for one of the new season’s “bad men†(or possibly “hard women): Academy Award-winning producer and occasional movie star Brad Pitt.
A:cool: Google search of "brad pitt true detective" nets 4.3 million results, including reports from PolicyMic, Metro UK, The Independent, and ShowBizSpy. This defies reason. Pitt's last movie was World War Z. Despite what we want to believe, no zombie movie has ever made much money. Cult followings, yes, but big bucks, no.

That is until this ladies hubby signed on to the project.

With Pitt, the movie, that struggled to get made, grossed $570 million. Why would he do HBO when he can make a $Gazillion$ dollars doing any film project he wants?

but.....that is hardly the end of the rumors.

IMBD says the leading candidate is Denzel Washington.

Other tidbits:

We won't be seeing TDII until late in 2015, at the earliest. It takes time to write the scripts and the creative team needs a break.

Breaking News:

Brad Pitt says he is not looking at True Detective

I can't wait a year and a half for this to come out. Forget Pitt for a role here. I would rather see Denzel in one of his non-traditional roles of playing a bad dude. Think Training Day coupled with Man on Fire.

AL I know is that they have a lot to live up to in the second season. I find the "different actors / story" approach very interesting, but it is a huge risk as well.
