Top TWO greatest Longhorn players in your lifetime?

Didn't get to see Earl play so I have to go with Vince. If I had not read the post by J.B. I would have said Ricky without a doubt but I have to go with Derrick Johnson. I feel like he played at a level above all others and helped change the way defense was played by making a play on the ball while securing the tackle.

as one of the old folks it's my duty to tell you morenz never beat colorado.
My bad. For some reason I thought we won.

I guess my memory is falling away a bit.

Oh well. I still remember Morenz playing and that's my oldest memory of Longhorns football.

Since I did not see Tommy Nobis or Bobby Layne play. . . . Hard to argue with the OP, Earl (yes, liked him better than Ricky though Ricky does make one think about it) and Vince.

You can make a good argument for any combo of those 5. . . .
LOL - but you see, that is why I narrowed it down to 2 players.  Being as old as I am, I could name off a litany of great UT players, but having to choose the two best becomes a little tricky, doesn't it?

I should have set up a more specific criteria - like what players were actual game breakers and who could have played any position on the field and excelled?  James Street was mentioned - the only undefeated starting QB in he history of UT football.  But He was embedded in the Wishbone and was perfectly suited for that offense at that time.  Could he have excelled as a pocket passer?   I doubt it.  How about Colt McCoy?  His career at UT was simply incredible.  But do you consider him a game breaker?  Could he have played LB?  Jordan Shipley was one of the best WR's in the history of UT WR's.

But when it comes down to a player that will be the game breaker that wins the game for you, it's hard for me to consider anyone but The Tyler Rose and VY.
