The Longhorn Network

I’ll probably get razzed for this but as the Texas captains told aggy at the coin flip years ago, “ It don’t give a sh*t”, I’m going to miss the Longhorn Network when we go to the $ec.

Agreed, but I suspect CDC has a plan to provide pre and post game commentary, etc.

I hope we continue to have an easy way to watch the majority of our sporting contests. That was one of the great things about LHN early on. It does seem that almost all college competition is at least on ESPN3 or ESPN+. As long as we can watch the games I'm good with it.

When the move to the SEC was announced, CDC said that the LHN would be folded into the SEC network. Not sure what that means exactly, but I agree that it would be nice to continue to have good coverage of other sports. I have to believe that CDC would see to it that that happens.

What I've heard is that ESPN will create two SEC Networks with half the conference featured on one channel and the other half on the other channel. Lots of duplicated broadcasts, such as college game day and Game Day Final with stories from select schools each week.

Seems like it would make sense for ESPN to retain their LHN studio in Austin and turn it into an SEC facility. Considering Disney/ESPN is in financial trouble, they are probably looking to avoid spending any unnecessary money. In the end, I have to imagine CDC had a big say in it during negotiations with the SEC and ESPN.

Maybe, . . or sell it to UT for their broadcasting department.

I dont follow you, why would UT buy something they already have....I thought the LHN was made so UT would never have to play second fiddle to anyone and basically own their own broadcasting rights

That is over once we join the SEC.

I wonder if the University will be able to produce and stream their own content in addition to what the SEC network does. Back in the day when LHN was created, cable TV was really the only distribution platform available. Hopefully so.

They will but I expect most games to be on espn+. But for the other shows I think we could see some sort of paywalled app. LSU is a great example of something we could see. They do a ton of behind the scenes content and have shows similar to Longhorn Rewind. Here is the link if you want to look: https://lsu.gold/

But most Olympic sports games that used to be on LHN will likely move to ESPN+.
