Shemar Smith of Miami Jackson received a Texas offer today. The unheralded edge rushing prospect holds a few offers, but none are from a big name program. The Texas staff has shown a willingness to scour south Florida to supplement their talent pool.

I caught up with Smith this evening, and it's clear to see the offer made an impression on him. "It's definitely different from other programs" Smith said when asked what it was like to receive an offer from a program like Texas. Defensive back coach and national recruiting ace Chris Vaughn is on the case in this one and extended the offer today.

Smith says he had some contact with the Texas staff before prior to the offer and plans to visit sometime in the summer. Smith doesn't know much about the Texas program but says he's heard some things and is eager to learn more.

When I asked Smith where Texas stood for him now that they have offered, and he wasted no time telling me they are #1 on his list. Take a look at the film below and see for yourself. We will continue to track this recruitment as Charlie Strong continues to hit south Florida recruiting.

Shemar Smith ..... Miami Jackson (Miami, FL)
2-star ..... OLB ..... 6-0.5/197

Considering he's a 2 star recruit with an unimpressive offer list, I would think we would be #1 on his list.

CS has a reputation of recognizing talent. This UT offer should have other schools especially in the Florida area take a new look at Smith and his offer list should increase from the top schools.

Surprised that he's only listed at 6' 1" - he looks taller.

Plays with high-energy, looks fast on tape, pretty quick off the ball. Definitely looks like an OLB or potential FOX end, but obviously needs to put on weight. Will probably need a redshirt year.
