Texas Offense

Did I miss the press conference where the 2014 UT offense was detailed to the public? Did I miss a special sneak preview of illegal scrimmaging on the Longhorn Network showcasing the putrid Texas offense?

Anything and everything being said is conjecture at this point, and I feel pretty safe in saying that most of those posting about how terrible the offense is going to be probably know very little about installing/running a football offensive scheme. It is also safe to say that the last people I want advice from about football are Texas BMD's. Without a doubt, they are successful people, but their success has occurred in fields far removed from football.

I could go on and piss everyone off, but this will temper the complete disdain I have for people that "think" they have a clue about coaching big-time college football.

We almost won the big 12 with the #64 total offense. The 3 main guys that could be calling plays were all part of top 40 offenses. If we play great defense and get more effort and passion out of our players we will be fine. Doesn't seem wise to judge the offense before you have seen it.

Panic can be fun to watch. It is like "reality tv" only real.

Seriously though, is fanatics have not went through a change of head coaches for 16 years. With all of the excitement there is always fear of change. The "expert" in all of us starts to come out and question decisions, often from a very un-informed point of view, like in this case. The way I look at it is that it is much better for the fans to come here and "debate" than in public or work.

There are some valid concerns and yes a whole lot based on very limited information. Yesterday, I mentioned that it was foolish to debate the unknown. However after another member corrected me, rightly so, I have come to conclusion that the debating based on the limited info we do know is fine. However jumping off a cliff and going full retard is what is foolish.

Just sit back and enjoy the show. The main thing that I have learned in 16+ years of being on Longhorn fan forums is that the mob is very fickle.

Guys our offense sucked the last three years!! So get over wanting Saban, Harbuagh brothers, Meyers, Shaw, Muschamp, or the plethora of HC you wanted and get on board with Coach Strong. He going to make you proud someday.

Ellie might have said it best. Texas fans feel entitled also.

We wanted a coaching hire that would make everyone else almost give up. But no Saban, no Meyers, no Harbaugh, etc. We got a very good blue collar type who will do whatever it takes to change the culture and showcase his ability on the big stage, now that he is given the chance he so well deserves.

OK we can accept that and him, grudgingly. but at the very least we want great coordinators with dropdead reputations. After all, We're Texas. We deserve and should be able to buy the best. Bedford? Well ok, I guess, that was kinda expected . Strong is know for his defense, and Bedford is his guy.

Ok, We can accept that, but we absolutely have to have a grand slam home run for OC to be able to make sure every one in the B12, and event the SEC, PAC and the ACC roll over and give up. But wait, no Morris, no Herman, no Henson, etc. What is Strong doing? who are these guys?

How are we supposed to get everyone to just roll over and play dead for if we don't have the NAMES that will blow them away?

What, no entitlement? I thought that only applied to the team, maybe the athletic department. You mean it applies to the Fans, even the BMDs? Whoa, now you're going too far. You expect us to stand here and watch you build this, blue collar style, from the ground up? And you want us to loyally give you the grace and freedom to loyally follow you as you build it? I don't know, that's asking an awful lot.

Yeah, I heard your eleven points, and that's a good start.And I agree you don't have time to rebuild. Lord know we won't stand for that But you have 3 OC on staff. Couldn't you just have one we really like?

Agree completely with crotchole. Nearly all posters on this board are true Longhorn fans, and thus, good guys. Some, however, want to stroke their egos in ways that can be hurtful to the team. Negative comments about a coach's decision or a player do not help in any way. Players read them and recruits read them. The real decision makers could care less. Debate is fine, but should be confined to the local bar, or in your home while having a beer with your buddy. No need to air out your family problems.

Pull together Longhorns. Think positive, post positive, and good things will happen. Hook'em!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with stating the offensive coaching staff that has been assembled is uninspiring. Its a reasonable viewpoint. There are a lot of teams we can point to and say they also have uninspiring offensive staffs. that doesn't mean we have identified any of them as failing. What it means is that successful teams have displayed certain identifiable characteristics. Uninspiring teams have also have demonstrated identifiable characteristics.

As you point out, everything is conjecture at this point. I certainly am not saying the team will fail or succeed. All I am saying is that we lack clear leadership on the offensive staff. Who is the offensive coordinator? We don't know. What offensive scheme will they look to install? We don't know. What skill sets will recruited players need to demonstrate to make us believe we had a successful recruiting class? We don't know. It is difficult at this point to feel inspired about the decisions Coach Strong has made in assembling the offensive staff. That doesn't mean the staff won't produce results on the field. It only means it is difficult to draw inspiration so far. Coach Strong can produce results without being very inspiring in the process. I'm just saying,so far, he hasn't "wowed" me with the team he has assembled to install and run his offensive scheme. Gundy, Stoops, Patterson, Briles, Snyder and Mora have impressed me with their ability to build defensive coaching staffs that can shut down even well schemed offensive game plans. Coach Strong has his work cut out for him. I'm supportive of him, but unimpressed and uninspired about the team in place at this point.
