****Texas Baseball hosts South Carolina for a 3-game weekend set****

If you would've told me that we were 3-3 vs the SEC at this point in the season a month ago I would've taken it! Great sweep and they are clearly looking improved at the plate since Globe Life Park.

Horns up to #10 in the rankings today.

Also, did some quick math:

First 3 games in Arlington:

6.16 ERA

5.3 Hits/gm

1.3 Runs/gm

15.3 Ks/gm

In the 11 games since:

3.05 ERA

11 Hits/gm

8.5 Runs/gm

10 Ks/gm

While the Ks per game is a number I'd like to see go down, every category is showing marked improvement.  That's what you want to see early in the season.

3 game set vs Baylor in Waco begins on Friday, starting conference play.

I’ve never been a big bourbon drinker, had to March out and buy some.  You guys flung a craving on me.  Next game I’m having a drank

Still super early for RPI to mean a ton. I like where we are headed and think we finish better than 40th.

agree... but the RPI is not a bad indicator since it takes quality of opponent into consideration.  According to the NCAA RPI rankings, Texas has jumped up to 34th. Texas deserved the initial low ranking based on how they opened the season but has since pulled themselves back up and will be top 20 soon, IMO.

Raw stats, OTOH, are pretty useless at this point unless applied to RPI.  A good example is KSU, which leads in B12 pitching stats, #5 in fielding & #6 in batting. I think their stats are inflated due to the quality of the competition and will come down considerably when they open conference competition with oSu, TTU, and Texas...

KSU schedule & series results so far:

#20 Or-gone St     1-0
Gonzaga     1-1
New Mexico     1-0
W. Mich     3-0
E. Ill        1-2
S. Dakota St    2-0
N. Ill        2-0
Rice        1-1

Edited for correction: I didnt look at the date for the NCAA RPI ranking which shows March of 2020, however, the previous #40 Nolan ranking is still valid.  Interesting that the current Nolan ranking is close to the March 2020 NCAA RPI with such a poor start to the season.
