So will we ever again see the Longhorns vs. Aggies in regular season?

I found this rather amazing.

If the Aggies are going to be happy not playing Texas and ending the year playing LSU instead, then maybe Texas needs to play Notre Dame annually. Texas and Notre Dame trump the SEC. And that is the only potential rivalry that would. Unless the SEC take a big slide down, which is highly unlikely.

I hope we never ever ever play them in anything unless it happens in a Bowl game that we have zero control in so doing EVER.

Don't know if that would be too much in our advantage. South Bend is a frozen tundra in late November. It would be an advantage to ND both climate wise and home field advantage whenever UT plays there. I'll bet the mta rivalry resumes after a couple more years. It was DD who really ended it. Now that he's gone, anything is possible.

Did you read the article? This is not about Dodds saying its over. This is about Aggies saying they have no desire to play Texas.

I don't think ND would want to have a Thanksgiving weekend rivalry with Texas. We always play away that weekend. In recent years, we have been playing in CA. One year at SC and the next year at Stanford.

Would it be worth while to Texas to replace Stanford in that 2 team rotation? I would say yes, even with it meaning Texas would need to have another season ending foe half the time.

I have a couple of thoughts on this.

1) This is like the girl I dumped in college who was still hung up on me seeing me out and then says "I wouldn't date him again."

2) Kirk Bohls reported this from some "high level source" within the UT administration who said the game might have a shot at rekindling again some day. No one ever said that we wanted to play them again.

3) When Sumlin, JFF, and Evans all leave next year the Aggies are going to be a completely different team and probably trending in the wrong direction. Maybe the coach they bring in will do some good things but I don't think they will be getting the national spotlight they have the past two years. Lightening in a bottle only strikes once...

4) No to playing Notre Dame every year. They get as much "over-hype" as the SEC. Let's keep them on the schedule for what we've got and then move on. Maybe USC, maybe Ohio State, Florida, Florida State any of these teams in a rotation but not a yearly thing. The playoff system should allow us the opportunity to stay relevant without a end of year game.

5) Fu*# aTm!

I think the SEC sliding is likely. Like everyone else their teams have gone through prolonged dry spells. The good thing for them recently has been that someone else in the conference was their to pick up the slack. The "SEC formula" has also been exposed and I think the majority of college sports fans feel that the system has been skewed in their favor. This recognition should make out and out hose jobs (LSU v Bama 2) far less likely to reoccur. Saban is probably hanging it up soon and Les Miles is on the decline in my opinion. It is the best conference but I could see other conferences making the right moves to even things up, maybe not across the board but at least with their top teams. In a way, the SEC success is driving other schools and conferences to catch up and I think it's already happening.

Also, and I'm sorry this is so disjointed - Im' trying to work - but the SEC has also been the beneficiary of some very good luck. Demarco Murray doesn't play and Bob Stoops lays another egg and they barely lose to Fla. We lose Colt and have the Tide within 3 with 3 minutes left playing a never-been-used true frosh QB who had 5 turnovers.

Texas - ND would be incredible.

As for playing A&M, my thoughts from the other thread:

No way A&M wants us back on their schedule. They cannot compete with us on a level playing field (see history of everything). The SEC gave them an Ace in the hole and losing to us every year would negate that advantage. Furthermore, the little brother complex was very literally driving them insane and while they've traded in their penis envy for penis stroking (all things SEC of course but in particular their sudden affection for the accomplishments of other schools) they are probably a much healthier bunch.

and then you took her home that night.

I used to say A&M was like that commercial with the girl calling the guy to say she's giving him the silent treatment.

Yes I read the article, but my point is that two years ago, people at UT were saying we would never play aggy again. Now people at UT are saying we should play the game again. That's quite a change of heart from not that long ago.

Aggy thinks they have the upper hand now, but once Johnny felony leaves along with Sumlin, I guarantee they're singing a different tune.

I believe Aggy is doomed to SEC mediocrity, much like Arkansas or if they are lucky, like Georgia. I believe we will turn the tide and be a College powerhouse again in a few yrs. Aggy will be begging for the game to restart at that point, they will need it to try and stay relevant. Anyway that's what my crystal ball says.

Well, if this were the old days, that would be the best guess. But being in the SEC is a whole other animal. A&M does not have to remain at the top of the SEC West (and it has not won it yet) to have all it needs from just SEC games. If you are located in TX and have Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn as annual opponents, you are going to be more than fine in terms of drawing interest from major recruits and fans.

Aggies in the SEC changes everything, which is the reason Texas fans cannot assume that the Big 12 ruled for the most part from Austin is more than fine for Texas. Texas may need more national exposure via its conference - not just in football, but overall as a university.

I don't care to play Notre Dame every other year in November. No thanks

We just need to schedule two strong non-conference opponents every year. Next year is good with BYU and UCLA.

A&M? Where else can we find a "big rival" that we can beat 70% of the time?

Aggie will want to play us in a few years. The team that is perceived down at that time will want to start it up again to get them back.

unless conference realignment dictates, I suspect ut-ags is gone for quite a while. used to bother me a bit. now...they're like Arkansas. over it.

I believe aggy will become aggy once again in a few yrs and will be as irrelevant as Arkansas is now. I may be misreading this, but I think that is what will happen. JFF leaves and they have a down yr or two and they are back to being the mediocre aggy once again, no matter what conference they play in. Even if they play LSU, Bama, Ga, Florida, if they lose most of those games, apathy will set in for aggy.

Probably one day it will happen. Right now-who cares. Why are we keeping them relevant by talking about them. When Johnny and Evans leave they are back to a 7-8 win team.
