I don't know, I was kind of hoping this would happen. This way they can have packages for Heard and redshirt Sam. Of course, If Sam outperforms everybody then all bets all off.

Trevon Boykin was a complete mess his Soph year then moved back to QB his Jr year and that worked out. Anything is possible. I know everyone is different, but it fits the same pattern.

Yes, he's staying at Houston.

Buechele already proved to be a much better downfield passer than Heard. Much more consistent too. Downfield passing has more impact in any offense over picking up consistent yards between the tackles. 

Chew on this, eleven of Buechele's Passing TD's were of the 20+ yard variety. No other freshman has managed that. Heard has not played QB since the 2015 Tech game.

All Heard has needed is the practice reps a young QB needs because if he can make quick mostly accurate throws  with his threat to run he will make plays defenses will have to cover his runs giving 1 less in pass defense. During his season as QB he had Watson teaching 1 offense style in practice and Norvell calling a different offense for game day

Personally, I'd like a QB who is phenomenal in 0-20 yards passing rather than one who is great at bombing it down field all day, unless of course they can do both (+ running would be great). Those deep shots are few and far between, it's the shorter ones the QB will be throwing more of.

IMO, Heard's greatest asset was his scrambling and elusiveness in the open field. Based on his progress and what I saw from him at the WR position, I think that's where his future lies. With an offensive mind like Herman's, I assume he will find a way to get Heard the ball and take advantage of Heard's talents. Also, there's always the option of a trick play with Heard at WR, where is ability to throw the deep ball can be utilized effectively.

Admittedly, games like Cal in 2015 are always going to peak my interest of Heard playing QB, but Boo and Sam are going to be able to make more throws on a consistent basis.

What I can tell you guys is that I was told Heard has still been working with the skill guys (WR/RB) during offseason workouts.

I'd just like to see what Heard can do in a spread offense under a good teacher of the concepts.

IMO, Gilbert didn't really give him a chance and Watson was never really committed to it. Worst case, we can use Heard in some "wildcat" packages with easy-to-read RPOs.

Heard will be a senior next year; correct?
