bbdude, mcphaul, whisenant, santa gertrudis, shaunsters, pockey, to name a few. The key players...

Gentlemen, as you are well aware, many posters, have been hereby playing the "dozen" upon a daily basis, as per the last few months, regarding our forthcoming / prospective head coaching hires. Of course, this shall only be in lieu of mack brown, adhering to the "prophecy" of announcing his retirement at the end of this incredulous season.

(gruden, smart, jimbo, briles, sumlin, meyer,) just to name a few. Please allow me the honor of referring to these individuals as "the scrubs" (coaches that we are most certain that UT shall not entertain as it's next head coach) As posters that are allowed the privilege of patronizing this burgeoning site, we are well aware that there are no "crystal balls" currently into play. However, we are more than "astute" enough to comprehend that the University of Texas, has a vast network of "worker ants" that are more than willing to supply the queen. Or even the king for that matter... with any and all privileged information, that was previously regarded as "concealed".

All that I am now suggesting, is to please allow us to place a "halt" to the daily word games in regards to our next UT head coach. And allow for us the opportunity to "focus" solely upon the real prospectives (saban, tomlin, carroll, shaw,) etc. etc..

IMO, this option shall allow for us upon "hornsports" to come together (with the remaining time left as per this season) and focus more objectively upon our next prospective head coach. This may very well wind up becoming a "fun" aspect, since it shall allow for us to "subtly" compete with the other outlying sites upon this race to the finish

...just deliver to us the names...we shall take it from there. NO SCRUBS ALLOWED!

Not that I completely disagree with you but I don't think it's fair to think we'll all agree on whom the "SCRUBS" are.

For me -

Tier 1

Saban - Carrol - Gruden - Meyer

Tier 2

Tomlin - Shaw - Jimbo - Briles - Sumlin - Smart

Hopefully you can agree that neither of us are complete idiots and yet we have 2 differences even in whom are Tier 1 targets should be. When you multiply that out to 30 posters, almost certainly almost all of our "SCRUBS" are now included into the Tier 1 discussion.

Who are what I think are coaches we have a legit shot at landing?

(Id put no one's odds at more than 30% right now since there STILL is not an opening)

Saban (Too much smoke for no fire), Urban Meyer (getting shut out of the NC picture helps us), Mike Tomlin (If its true they reached out to us).

In the running:

-must have college HC experience

-shouldn't be more than 12 mos removed from coaching

-skins on the wall is important

-good recruiter with ties to the state

-fairly "clean" rep

Scrubs:

-current assistants

-guys who have been out of coaching for more than 12 mos

-not sure how to word it...but guys who have been successful in weak conferences, unproven/untested (we are past the time for the risk on these type of successful coaches).

As each week passes by, I find myself liking the Art Briles idea more and more. What he's done with Baylor, Houston and Stephenville (HS) is nothing short of absolutely impressive. If you gave him the resources he'd have at Texas, I don't see how UT couldn't get it turned around. Outside of Briles, it's hard to ignore all of the Saban rumors these days. I also like the idea of luring in somebody like David Shaw or Charlie Strong.

Mack Brown >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Gruden/Tomlin

And I want Mack gone more than anyone in the universe. How on earth are these two making it on anyone's wish list?? If Patterson even interviews either of these guys he should be fired.

...come on brasky, the very same can be said for "briles" especially since he "hates" Texas and all.....

If Gruden could coach, he would be a coach not a beer commercial.

Tomlin has some argument bc he is actually a coach.

Briles is presently the head coach of the #4 team in the country and he's doing it at Baylor. Mike Tomlin has been a position coach in college. John Gruden went to college, I think.

The jury is out on whether Briles dislikes Texas or not. I find it hard to believe that he has some longstanding hatred considering he allowed his son to come here. More likely he didn't see eye to eye with Mack Brown and he wouldn't be the first serious football coach to clash with MB.

...I am most certain that the world may agree, that "china" seriously despises the United States. but this does not prevent them from sending "hordes" of their students to the U.S. as per their studies, etc... the very same may be said for iran, syria, ...I'm sure that you may now get the picture.

some people just love to "use" the system.... all the while nuturing their hatred. this happens everyday.

monarch, you my friend, need to quit drinkin' so damn early :)

hating beer and liking football are mutually exclusive :D
...now now brasky, just suppose that I was POPE Francis... I would be annoyed and perplexed.

Where did this Briles hates Texas come from?

Just because he voted Ou over Texas in 2008? Thats a dumb reason for people to think that. Maybe Briles does hate Texas but if he did he would not have sent his son there, regardless of what the Chinese and Syrians do. Briles wasnt the only one who though Ou was better than Texas that year. I completely disagree bc I think Texas was better but its ok to think the other way. Ou beat Bu 49-17 (in Waco) & Texas beat Bu 45-21 (in Austin) so Maybe he just went by point spread.

We should not assume Briles likes Texas more than other schools, nor vice versa.

Before anybody jumps at me, I'm just throwing this conversation topic out there. Given it looks like Briles might be off the market, what are some thoughts about Clemson Offensive Coordinator Chad Morris? I suspect somebody will offer him a Head Coaching gig this Off-Season. My money right now is that he's going to hold out and see if Sumlin takes the USC job. If Sumlin leaves for USC, Morris and Texas A&M would be a perfect fit for one another. Not to mention, he's a Texas A&M alumni. But I'm curious as to if anyone here has thought about him for the Texas HC job. I'm not necessarily throwing his name in the hat as much as gauging opinions. He's got a connection to Briles as they both are former Head Coaches at Stephenville High School. He actually coached Stephenville when Texas recruited Stephenville Quarterback, Jevan Snead (who later transferred to Ole Miss). And he's got connections to Austin as he formerly coached Lake Travis and was the Coach when Texas recruited Lake Travis Quarterback Garrett Gilbert (who later transferred to SMU).
