SEC fan (introduced myself to McPhaul). NOT Bama or LSU or A&M.

I've witnessed Saban's opening class recruiting at both LSU and Alabama. He will be less behind the 8-ball this January than he was at LSU in Jan 2000 or at Bama in Jan 2007 , because his reputation has grown at each stop.

He will cull the current crop of commits if he sees players who simply don't fit his system. Texas currently runs a 4-3 defense and a spread attack. Saban likes a 3-4 with one of the OLB's being a DE/LB pass rushing morph.

His offense is run oriented and he likes two TE sets much more than other programs.

#6 MLB Zach Whitley 6'2 220 Galena Park Tx

#3 OG Ross Piersbacher 6'5 270 Cedar Falls Ia

#1 C JC Hassenauer 6'3 290 Woodbury Mn

#42 WR Derek Kief 6'5 195 Cincinnati Oh

#32 DT OJ Smith 6'2 320 Bossier City La

#6 QB David Cornwell 6'5 230 Norman Ok

#22 DT Josh Frazier 6'3 330 Springdale Ar

I think that these 7 kids follow Saban to Tx as they are either in the current Big 12 periphery or closer to Austin that Tuscaloosa or are, in Kief's case, from Ohio, where Saban has a lot of roots as a coach. Certainly, other schools will go after them hard----but lets face it---if you're offered a choice between an education at Texas or at Bama, you choose Texas (and if you chose Bama, you weren't getting past UT admissions anyhow :) )

The priorities will be defensive backs (the corner from Houston) and Jamal Adams.

He will recruit nationally a lot more than any other Texas coach has, but that is just how it will be. He has never had a recruiting base like this (Texas) or resources like he will have in Austin. It should be something to watch.

When I heard the word "system" I nearly jumped out of my chair for joy. Love it

I believe it was stated that Saban will move towards a Spread type system but, I like your thinking.

Yeah, Saban has said - at least I think - that he is going to get on board with some of the spread offenses.

Saban will be unable to recruit any Alabama commits to Texas that Texas has not already been in contact with. So unless I've missed something the only commitment that Texas contacted before is Whitely. The rest of those guys would be considered "untouchable."

I think Texas will go hard after kids currently committed to A&M and LSU. And I think LSU could be the biggest beneficiary with Saban's defection since he's been cleaning up in Louisiana this year. There was a report that I read lately that said Adams was not a fan of Saban and does not want to play for him collegiately.

He would need to get in on as many offensive linemen as he could. Hammad is a beast and will step into a guard spot well, but he's got issues galore at the tackle spots right now.

Longview - QB Ricky Towne had plenty of Texas contact.

Just sayin'......

Ok someone educate me. If I'm an idiot just tell me. Suddes came to Texas in May or June from Ala. He would have known NS recruitment list.

1. Is it possible some letters went out to these recruits from UT?

2. If so would that be considered contact and therefore would be open for UT to recruit?

3. With all of the reports that NS was contacted initially last Jan. Could a deal been made then and Suddes sent here for these and other purposes?

Yeah I wonder what qualifies as "in touch with". It is very possible that Texas has been in touch with 2/3 of Saban's Alabama class.

Question of the Day!!!

I thought we couldn't initiate contact but could recruit them if they contact us first. Did I just make that up?
