Recruiting: Anyone wish they could just check the boards on signing day?

I wish that I could stop reading these boards so heavily right now. I wish that I had the discipline to just stay off the boards until signing day and then see who we signed. But I know that I can't do it. All the rumors of losing recruits and commits visiting other schools is unsettling. I think that we will wind up with a good class but this up and down stuff is for the birds. I love and hate recruiting at the same time.

well I am retired and HornSports gives me work to do.....so I stay busy. Isn't this great. HOOK'EM and OU sucks

It definitely isn't helping my productivity, but it's not nearly as bad as the coaching search....

No thanks to the shutdown of leaks, innuendoes, rumors. I'll go for some uninformed guesses.

What's exciting to me is that we're cherrypicking from Arizona (TE, Whitely), Florida (LB, Beck), Louisiana (OG, Anderson), and possibly South Carolina (DL, Poona) & Florida (DL, Nelson). Our new coaching staff has a wider reach to Florida and up the east coast. Given that Texas, Florida and California are THE hotbeds of talent, I like this a lot.

That was really fun in the day. The DMN, Times-Herald, Star-Telegram, Houston papers, and the Austin paper all published their top 100, some a top 50 in ~November. Depending on which paper you trusted, subscribed to or could find in a rack at a hotel, you'd stake out your "best" list and yellow highlight the UT commits, leans.

Local radio helped some depending if you lived in DFW, Austin maybe Houston which I always avoided. You'd buy all the Sunday before signing day editions of newspapers you could find and update your highlights. I was able to cheat by knowing Jerry Scarbrough's phone number and later subscribing to True Orange. Of course I also lived a most of the 80's and early 90's in NY, GA, LA and TN so Jerry's phone number was best.

The day after signing day, you bought as many papers you could find and pull out the orange highlighter to see how the Horns really did! I always thought it was great excitement.

Whats even more exciting is that we are already seeing an active effort to recruit out of state with the 2015 class. I never understood why mack didn't even try recruiting outside of texas. I get it we are a hotbed but that doesn't mean you neglect the rest of the nation.

Remember when Max Emfinger was nearly the one and only recruiting guru? Whatever happened to that guy?
