According to news, Augie is going to start either Clemens or Mayes instead of Sawyer.

Hmmmmmm

Clemens, 20 IP, 5.40 ERA, 10K's, .240  BAA

Mayes, 18 IP, 1.00 ERA, 18 K's, .203 BAA

Test:  How are these two lines different?  Why is this even a choice?

Give me a break.  I like Kacy fine.  He's a good kid, but the call is clearly Mayes.  His only crime is that his last name isn't Clemens.

Anybody want to give odds on what the choice will be?

If Augie starts that bullshit like Brown did in football we are screwed and will end up near the bottom of the Big 12 this year.

French on Friday

Hollingsworth on Saturday

Clemens on Sunday

This is just a small evolution that's part of the process. Relax there's no favoritism going on.

Not surprised at all. Skip and Augie aren't going to put Mayes in the starting rotation until the end of the year. Skip does this almost every year trying to develop his young arms but also not throwing him into the fire while he's still developing.

What is the word on RAIN !!!!!????? Forecast calling for 100% on Friday and Saturday......Losing a game or two to weather will not help our chances at a title.

Oh please. Sorry Matt. No sale. Not buying that at all. Mayes is the proper choice. It isn't a marginal call. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. Augie had no problem pitching jungmann as a freshman. There have been plenty of freshmen who've pitched for Texas.

You wanna bet that Clemens isn't in the starting rotation come postseason play?

Mayes will likely be the starter come Big 12 tournament time. There's absolutely no reason to rush it right now.

You know how Augie & Skip prioritize confidence. Starting Mayes in a midweek game or two is a nod to that prioritization.

Yes, Jungmann pitched as a freshman, but his starts were less than 50% of his appearances. Sawyer, Schimpf, Johnston, McKenzie, Clemens, Malmin...all the inexperienced arms are logging innings. Mayes only has 2 fewer IP than Sawyer & Clemens.

It will all sort itself out.

There is if you need to win series and lock up as a regional and maybe even a super regional host site. Last years run thru regionals and super regionals in other places was very improbable. We can not bank on that. We have to do everything possible to host those games and we're playing conference games now, so winning home series is imperative. I think he's playing with fire by gambling on a lineup that's not optimized.

We clearly disagree on the strategy and he's the coach, I'm not so I'm sure he'll go with Clemens on Sunday and I hope it works and I'll be happy if it does.

I'd do it differently. I'm not the coach.

I don't think Augie or Skip are thinking about hosting right now. They care more about developing players to be ready for regionals/super regionals.

I don't think it takes a genius to see that Mayes>Clemens. There's no doubt that Skip knows that Mayes is a better pitcher, so there's obviously some reason he's rolling with Clemens.

I have a hard time believing that starting Mayes on Sunday will somehow truncate his development. I guess we'll see, won't we? 😉

Look, I like kacy. But I also think maximizing our chances of hosting regionals and super regionals is important

You have enough issues with proper cap choices. Get those corrected, then we can talk.

Whatever reason he might choose Clemens to start I doubt it's a helicopter parent thing. Maybe Mack did that with Brad McCoy, but I doubt at Augies age and status he gives a shit.
