4) Mack Brown

5) Les Miles

6) Nick Saban

7) Tim DeRuyte (Fresno state HC)

15) Darrell K. Royal (deceased)

Who did you pick?

very nice job. I got Gundy, Brown, Miles, Saban, Stoops, Meyer, Peterson.

Mack conf titles is a huge glare on his record.

But just to point out that its not just about record. Are you on the incline or decline? Did you win at a Fresno St or Fsu? Did you take a bottom feeder to a contender?

But a very good overall look at records but more used to determine who should be in hall of fame rather than who would you hire.

I didn't play your game... but I would like to see Saban come for the immediate boost in recruiting and we need a prickly attitude to eliminate the sense of entitlement in the program. If not Saban I could see Mora doing a good job here. The recruiting war is of utmost importance IMO...

I'd never pick a coach based on such a brief summary.

Why isn't Steve Spurrier included?

Come on. Give credit to the person who had the idea ;)

By the way I went with 14 but I knew that was Urban. I actually knew quite a few of them without knowing their names. I was surprised.

Sorry, I saw your post earlier and couldn't remember who said it.

Because he did not want to include pro golfers.
but Pro goofers like Mack Brown is OK? I don't know whether Spurrier is a pro golfer, but I'm sure he can dump more points on Texas than Gundy and Stoops, and do it on an yearly basis! ;)

A short summary of Spurrier's tenure at Florida: In 1990, he took over Florida, a scandal-ridden school without a conference title for 57 years. After just one year, the Gators won the SEC championship (1991) and captured 4 of the next 5 SEC titles. In his 12 years at Florida, Spurrier won 1 NC, played for another one, got 6 conference championships, crowned SEC coach of the year 5 times, averaged more than 10 wins per season, and got his team ranked in the final top 15 every year.

Under Spurrier, Florida became the only college football team to score at least 500 points, including bowl games, for four consecutive years.

Spurrier is the only coach in major college history to win as many as 120 games in his first twelve seasons at one school, and is credited for singlehandedly changing the way SEC schools play football.

I picked:

#1

#6

#14

But admittedly, I already knew who 6 and 14 were. Fun little game but it leaves out some important details that couldn't be included in stats. Like how well they recruit, how do their players perceive them, etc.

If I put recruiting class rankings in there, if you chose anyone other than Saban or Carroll you'd be nuts. Those guys pretty much own every top ranked class over the past decade plus.

# 4, "you don't know what you got till its gone "

Yes it is time for a change but mark my words he will be missed.

I think it stretches beyond just the actual recruiting rank though. Not that having the best Recruiting Class isn't important. But should I be more impressed with how Saban has all of his Five Star recruits playing this year? Or more impressed by how Briles has all of his Three Star recruits play this year? Not that I'm taking anything away from Saban with that comment. I'm simply saying that I want the coach who can come in, bring in the recruits and make them fit within the system. I think we've seen far too much of that over the last four-five years. Players that don't fit the system.
