Patterson should interview Gruden

If it is true that Gruden is asking for an interview and is lobbying donors like McCombs to aid him in getting access to the AD, Patterson has to give Gruden an interview. Regardless of how you feel about Gruden as a coaching candidate, there is absolutely no reason not set up a meeting to talk about the position and discuss Gruden's plan for Texas. Worst case scenario, you confirm the belief that he is not a good fit. It would be negligent not to at least explore the opportunity.

Personally, I'm shocked that this hasn't already happened, particularly with Red publicly proclaiming his support for Gruden. I'm not 100% convinced that Gruden is the best fit, but his football IQ, passion, and q-factor are without question. If he is interested, track him down and listen to his pitch...

I agree... I think Gruden might be the best hire. The only knock I see is having been away from coaching a few years.

And of course the Bucs...

Impressive resume... We thought that we had him a few years back. He blew it.

NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Brasky - I'm not arguing to hire Gruden, I'm advocating for an interview. Assuming it hasn't already happened, there is no reason not to listen to the man.

At least give the man a shot at an interview. He has basically all but publicly begged for it.

I disagree.

Patterson should do what he wants. It's his department and his smart and methodical plan. We shouldn't be wasting Patterson's time and UT's resources with interviews just because someone has placed in the media that "they want an interview", especially if they aren't on the list of candidates to begin with. Setting up an interview to "confirm he's not a good fit" is a complete waste and would indicate that we have no idea what we're doing.

Patterson should interview people who are on his list of best possible hires for UT. If Gruden isn't on there, then he's just not on there. If he is, then he'll get an interview.

By the OP's logic, we should interview anyone who lobbies a UT donor for an interview, provided they have football IQ, passion for the game, and experience. High school coaches too!

Interview sure, Hire No. There is a reason nobody else hasnt haired him except ESPN in the past 7 years.

Not if you have who you want to hire already. I don't think Red is real popular with the Athletic Dept right now after calling Case a "half gimp" in the press.

Pancho - That is a straw man argument.

That most assuredly has to be true. What was he thinking?
