Patrick Reed top five in the world?

I don't think he's quite there yet. Had a very hot start to the season and is a strong player. Let's see how his season plays out.

Jimmy Walker has had the same/better start to the year and he is not a top 5 in the world player yet either. IMO the golf season doesn't really start until the Masters, let's see how he plays from there on.

Would have liked him to be more humble about his win but can't deny his hot start. We shall he how he fairs come The Masters.

chutzpah, eh. that's yiddish for cajones, right ?

I saw the interview yesterday and i liked it. i think they said the only guys in the last 25 years to win 3 times before their 24th birthday are tiger, phil, rory and sergio.

Reed played very smart yesterday and held off a helluva tough field. who knows...he, spieth and rory might be this generation's 'Big 3".

i didn't have the same negative reaction to his comments a lot of people had, street, so i completely agree with you. wearing the bright red and black was sort of an in your face move, but it was also out of respect. one of those "the sincerest form of flattery......" type things.

i think the three you named might well be the next generations dominant players, but there are certainly others. jimmy walker seems to be really solid, russell henley is up there a lot, so is harris english and there are others. throw in guys like adam scott, hunter mahan and bubba watson and you've got a pretty solid core group of really good young players.

i think its great for golf, actually, and everybody else is pretty understated and reserved. maybe golf needs somebody brash to get the conversation going. its pretty clear to me that Tiger's career is on the wane. his back just isn't going to hold up.

and i love it that we've got a Longhorn to pull for every week. i haven't followed a golfer like Speith in quite a while. Crenshaw and Leonard were the last ones i followed like this.

I do not play golf, but I think the red shirt and black pants looked good against the green grass.

Good for him to grab everyone's attention while the spotlight is on him. Smart move, IMO.

Reed grabbed everyone's attention while he was at Georgia and was kicked off the team. Got picked up by Augusta State. I understand Augusta State players didn't like him and didn't want him on the team. Their "win at all costs" coach kept him anyway. It seems like fellow players don't care for his chutzpah.

Good post. I don't know much about Reed and always appreciate getting info like this that helps me see more than one side of a story.

Nice tournament win but I don't get the combative attitude? He shoots a final round 72 and is damn lucky his competition melted and Tiger had a bad back. The red and black thing is not working for me. He looks like he might want to shed a few pounds and improve the look.

After googling Reed, I see he was an All American at Augusta State and also helped Augusta State defeat his former team, U Georgia in winning a national championship in 2011. Matter of fact, Augusta won 2 consecutive championships while he was there. The boy can play.

I don't think he's top 5 yet but he has had a great start to the year. 10 tourny's/2 wins/7 top 25/1 missed cut. All of that has him sitting at 3rd in the Fedex Cup standings and 20 in the world golf rankings.

I love his attitude, it's almost like a football players mentality in a golfer's body and you don't see that very often. It will be fun to watch him the rest of the year.
