AUSTIN – On the heels of a sophomore season in which he accounted for 41 total touchdowns and led Texas to a Sugar Bowl championship, Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger has been named the preseason Big 12 offensive player of the year, the conference announced Tuesday.
Joining Ehlinger on the preseason All-Big 12 team are senior offensive lineman Zach Shackelford, sophomore kicker Cameron Dicker and sophomore safety Caden Sterns.
Ehlinger, who ran for three scores in that Sugar Bowl stunner over Georgia, set a program record for quarterbacks with 16 rushing touchdowns last season.
