Rumor Mill reporting that OC Brent Pease has been released. Some of us have mentioned the possibility of Applewhite joining at FL but, I just don't see where Applewhite has has been successful enough at Texas to warrant being hire as the OC at FL?

If Muschamp even tries to get Applewhite to be OC, if i were Foley, i would fire him right there.

Applewhite doesnt deserve a major OC job yet. If Applewhite knows whats best for his longterm career, he needs to learn as an assistant from a bright offensive mind. Some examples are Briles, Malzhan, Chat Morris, Todd Graham, Leach, etc.

Can't begrudge Major for trying to improve himself. As I said in an earlier thread, I think Muschamp is on a one year "lease on life", and you wont get elite guys to bet the farm on a trial run.

No one is begrudging Applewhite for trying to improve himself? As Contractor stated, it would be Muschamp who would be begrudged if he hires Applewhite.

Major would prefer to not work for Graham again.

It's a very strong preference.

Fair enough. Contractor mentioned Major needs time under a Malzahn, Graham type HC and was just noting he's already worked under Graham

Never mind that Applewhite has been hamstrung by Case McCoy and statistically has a better offense than Harsin.

some think Major wasn't too fond of working with Saban either. Maybe Major is part of the problem

We also have a much better OL this year, healthier RB's and depth at WR we did not have last year. I wonder what Harsin could have accomplished this year at Texas?

I wouldn't be too quick to denigrate Major's abilities. He's had the constraints of a meddling head coach and noodle armed qb.I'd like to see what he can do under better circumstances.

I love Case's Moby and competitive spirit but would also like to see Major with a rel D1 QB. I do not consider Ash a above average D1 QB.

We have the exact same personnel as last year, only a year older. Which no doubt helps. The OL is better but is still below average in 3/5 of the spots.

So if your job was on the line, you would hire him?

I would not.

Thanks ATX89. Having only Graham(1 year maybe 2), Harsin(2yrs)and GD as the best O minds Major his been around is not enough. I think that has led to a little bit of his shortcomings.

As we have read from McPhaul, Wyatt has had to help save a few games.

I just think he needs a couple of years under a smart good offensive mind so he can learn more systems, be better at playcalling and better in player(especially QB) development.

The best 10 Offensive minds together could not help Case be better but maybe better play calling.

What better play calling? You are limited when the defense doesn't have to effectively cover a 1/3 of the field depending on field position because your QB has no arm to make throws. The Case McCoy route tree has maybe 2 branches, then you back that up with 3/5 of your OL being below average due to physical limitations, experience, or injuries.

So tell me offensive guru what play calls should Applewhite have used that he is currently not?

As far as hiring Applewhite as opposed to xxx, what Top 10 OC is going to be leaving their current job to take a chance that he will still have a job after the season, not too mention what OC in the Top 10 is not going to get a head coaching job somewhere else?

I'm not crazy about Major as OC, but I'd say he's every bit as good as Pease. That being said, I don't see Coach Boom hiring him. The position needs to be a home run, like a Chad Morris or similar.

I don't think it was so much of what he didn't call, I believe it had to do with Major having a hard finding a good rhythm and sticking with it. I notice in several games where we were very successful in the run game and Major abandoned it for the passing game to the extent to where we had three incompletions in a row. Just left us baffled that Major would move away from what it is working especially for what you said poor QB play?

The thought being floated is he needs to take a step back and work under someone else. Can't blame him if he tries his hand at an OC job elsewhere.

If it was him who made the change. Very well could have been Brown meddling in things, which he is prone to do.

Someone one here reported Major had been asked about this at some sort of function and said to "ask the boss"
