CORAL GABLES, Fla. - University of Miami Director of Athletics Blake James announced today that he has relieved Head Football Coach Al Golden of his duties effective immediately. Assistant coach Larry Scott will serve as the Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2015 season.

“Coach Golden has led our program through some very difficult times and he has done so with class, integrity and a true desire to see our students succeed on the field, in the classroom and in the community.†James said. “However, we have a proud tradition of excellence at Miami, not just in football but in all sports, and we want to compete for ACC and national championships. I simply believe that now is the time to bring the Hurricane Family together and rally behind our young men.â€

Golden was 32-25 in his five seasons at the helm of the UM program and led the Canes to two bowl games in 2013 and 2014.

“On behalf of my family I want to thank the University of Miami for a tremendous opportunity,†Golden said. “I believe in what we are doing and how we are doing it and we have some outstanding young men in our football program. Though this moment is difficult, we wish the Canes the best of luck going forward.â€

Scott has served as the tight ends coach and run game coordinator for the past three seasons at Miami, after spending eight seasons at the University of South Florida.

Well I guess we'll find out how true those Strong to Miami rumors were.

I don't think Miami has the resources to pull Charlie away. We already have him out of their range, IMO. I also think Charlie is all-in here.

Miami will have to go with a fresh young face or a top coach from a smaller school.

Things are not well at the U.

Agree. My comment was made in jest. Miami is a huge step down from Texas.

Muschamp even though he didn`t win big at Florida would be good choice as long as he could find an OC he knows talent and can recruit just look at gators roster. But I expect the U will try for someone who has ties to school who will be around 2 million per year Christobal who is at Bama would be high on their list

Didn't the Miami AD give his coach his full support yesterday after the blowout, or am I thinking of someone else?

I think you are correct JoeyWa, but im sure after making that statement he got an ultimatum from his donors and Alumni. I live 30 minutes north of Miami and while there is not the money and tradition that we have, South Florida has A LOT of money everywhere you look and does have a lot of high profile alumni that pour money into that school.

Thanks Dalton. I thought I'd heard that and I told my son, "that's the kiss of death right there."

I hate the Miami Hurricanes, i moved here right after there early 2000's years of dominance that THE U had and had to hear on a daily basis about their god complex. I do however think they are the right coaching staff away from being National title contenders. The high school talent down here is ridiculous high and unlike the state of Texas where every school comes and cherry picks talent for there program, Florida schools have a stronghold on this area. Its a 9-10 hour drive to just get out of the state from Miami.

Fuente is going to get more $ than Miami will pay they need an assistant from big program looking for head coaching gig or coach who did not succeed completely at their first job. Mike Leach would be entertainment gold there although he might actually go full pirate for real at non landlocked school

Thanks for whoever corrected the typo in the topic line. lol

Not sure if anyone else went down this rabbit hole, but the first thought in my mind when this went down was how this might help Charlie in recruiting S Florida. Last year, we ran into some competition from Miami for a couple of recruits. Maybe now, not so much.

On a new episode of The Audible, a source tells Bruce Feldman that Texas coach Charlie Strong would have interest in the Miami job, which sends Bruce and Stewart Mandel into a deep dive on why it'd be extremely difficult for Strong to leave Texas and what would need to happen for that to actually be a possibility.

The Audible: Charlie Strong's gonna take $2M pay cut to coach Miami? Umm, OK
