I'm of the belief that 'the money' has too much influence on the athletics department at the University of Texas. I ' get it' but its my opinion that some of the money guys don't have a strong understanding of building and running a successful program. With that said, having their overall support will keep the pressure off Herman, at least for a while. I don't feel like CS ever had the overall support that Herman seems to have.

Strong never had the unified support that Herman is getting. Our boosters are a bunch of "good ol' boys" and Herman knows how to appeal to them.

That said, all the booster support in the world doesn't change the production, or lack thereof, on the field.

Your 100% correct....but Strong didn't have McCombs support 

before a snap was even played.

McCombs should have at least kept it to himself.

Last thing any new coach should have to here IMHO.

My guess is Perrin was at least smart enough to include McCombs and other BMDs on the hiring process.

Patterson was not. That's why Strong didn't have "unified" alumni support from the start. They didn't feel included in the decision-making at all. Unfortunately, ya gotta kiss their rings as AD.

I agree, however, being an oil executive, successful attorney, etc does not make you an expert in running a successful football program

I don't think he is implying their dumbasses. That said, being successful in their respective fields doesn't mean they're qualified and/or capable of making the appropriate decisions in building a football program.

What exactly have these guys done that makes you think they have tried to be involved in running the football program or tried to make any decisions in building the football program?

Using your financial clout and/or your ability to be heard to place pressure upon decision makers into the hiring, firing of a coach has direct effects upon the program.

If I am critical of a coaches results, trust me, Dr. Fenves or AD Perrin could care less of my opinion. However, if the criticism comes from a BMD, they will be heard. It is my opinion that pressure from donors, specifically, the big donors have and will continue to influence future coaching decisions.

Therefore, that is why I feel they are involved in decisions that ultimately effect the building of a football program.

I agree with BevoBlake.

I've worked with numerous people who had their PHD's in their respective fields who probably couldn't tell you the difference between a regular or Philips tip screwdriver. I also know some millionaires that would fall in that category too.

Being very successful and/or rich in one area doesn't make you an expert in everything.
