Just throwing this out. You think he's in full denial and mad because he was recruiting and didn't want to look like an idiot in front of recruits. Not saying he wasn't telling recruits that he was leaving but, he would look like an idiot sitting in a living room talking about next year and seeing the scroll across tv that he's retiring. Just a thought.

Mack wants to get back to Austin be able to tell the team himself. I don't blame him for that.

Exactly. Good point.

Also, Mack and the team deserve that much anyway.

Yes, but he better hurry up. This will take on a life of its' own soon (if it hasn't already).

I believe he is providing cover until we name/or get closer to a new coach to protect recruiting. That may have been something negotiated as part of his exit and part of the additional separation benefits/compensation.

Or...he's not playing nice by refusing to announce anything and this was a move to force his hand.

My thoughts exactly. From others who have said he has been dancing around with a date to announce...Mack knows that the longer he waits, the less likely Saban comes. Again, Mack does NOT want Saban to follow him.

So, he would risk the public perception fallout of being associated with an ugly exit and scuttling of Saban? Not to mention giving up the payouts beyond his official payout? Nothing leads me to believe that Mack cares more about keeping Saban out than his public perception or money. Saban benefits him in many ways. It implies that only a Saban could replace a coach on Mack Brown's level. It backs up the notion of the best job in the country and having the best coaches, which improves Mack's image as one of the "Texas legends" like Nick Saban and Royal. Although not necessarily true, Mack will be able to claim that he built the program and had us set up for the success that followed. He will claim he left us in the best possible hands and it was his plan all along. His camp will always be able to claim that whatever success Saban has Mack would have had the same because he was right on the brink of another run. If he hands his empire over to a less competent coach it will lessen Mack's legacy in all the aforementioned areas. A crappy run after Mack leaves gets placed on his shoulders and diminishes his legacy.

What you say makes sense on the surface but what doesn't make sense is that if he is truly resigned to leaving. Then why stay in Florida. Why not come home and tell the kids like you say he wants to. It just doesn't add up.

Kendall Sanders and Diggs are already feisty over it. Probably need to get back to your job (or former job) and settle down kids.
