Charlie on Mike & Mike this morning. . .

He's not stepping on the landmine. . . he's "giving credit to Mack' for him leaving the program in better shape than he found it. . .

"I'm laying another brick". . . ..for a guy who supposedly isn't good with the media. . .so far he's been great. . .

Loved his comment about "him being him". . .

Wow. . .quoting Charlie Strong is now 1 star worthy???

we still have some serious butt hurt . ..oh well . . .to each their own. ..

Back to Coach Strong. .for a guy who's supposedly not very media savvy. .he's kicking backside and doing very well. . .no silly minefields for him. .

I know the 1 star is most definitely someone who is butt hurt, or accidentally clicked it.

I am pleasantly surprised how savvy he is. Has a good fire about him.

dude is a presence, physically, emotionally, intellectually. not sure why the rap about media except that maybe he doesn't like dealing with them.

he sells himself. kids are going to love this guy!

It's a good sound bite when the context is understood.....but "laying another brick" can have different connotations. I'm hoping the SID's office has the good sense to let it go.

Every time I have heard a coach use the connotation, the meaning always referred to building a program.

Of course his speech isn't as smooth as Mack's or someone media savy but he's intense and comes across real. No dilly dallying with him. Very straightforward.

Eric Winston was a top recruit out of Midland Lee a year behind Cedric Benson. A long story, but he visited UT the same weekend as Vince. They rolled out the red carpet for Vince, even announcing him at the basketball game. Winston was largely ignored and eventually signed with Miami and now plays for the Cardinals.

One of the things he said he didn't like about Texas was Mack. He said he didn't like his voice. Kind of petty, but I never liked Mack's voice either and his press conferences were always hard to listen to. I liked Charlie Strong's press conference in spite of being told by internet dudes that he doesn't do well with the media.

First - what does "one star" mean?

Secondly - Strong has a real row to hoe. In addition to righting the ship that has been in decay for many years, he has to revitalize recruiting, deal with the entitled media, deal with the players, deal with the existing coaches and, finally, deal with the entitled BMD's.

Whether you like Strong as our coaching choice or not, he deserves our full support until he doesn't. I say this as a disappointed Saban advocate, but I would be a lip servicing Longhorn fan if I didn't give my new football coach my full support.

Winston was never coming to Texas. His stepfather and mother were hard-core Aggies. When he signed with Miami, they didn't attend his high school signing ceremony and kicked him out of their house because he didn't sign with the Aggies. Can you imagine what they would have done if he'd signed with Texas?

the other reason he said he wasn't coming to TEXAS was they wanted him to move from TE to OT. . .which is EXACTLY what Miami did to him after swearing to him he'd be a TE. ..great old recruiting story but you are right. ..he was NEVER coming to TEXAS. .

Doc, . .

it's a way of rating threads. ... .I said it largely to mock some of the pettiness ...but one of the great things about this board . .they are refusing to allow the lynch mob crowd to take over. . .it will serve them well as many good boards are sliding into the cesspool. . .

Honestly, I don't think Strong is bad with the media. I think the media is bitter about Strong's resistance in giving them soundbites. Thus, they've made sure they polluted the Strong name in ways the least recognizable. Strong has an incredible presence that is going to greatly benefit him in both recruiting and interviews. The media can get off their high-chairs and get in line for a potential National Championship winning Head Coach.

Not safety?

They also took away his car. Can't imagine anyone doing much to Eric Winston physically and if you've seen him in person you know what I mean. I am a big man, but Winston is a monster.

His step father promised he would deliver to the Aggies and Eric must not have liked the Aggies at all.

I am not totally convinced he would have never come to UT because I saw him there on several different occasions and if he was against us I doubt he would have made it down to Austin more than once.

None of that was really my point, though. I just don't think Mack is all that with the media. His voice always got on my nerves.
