Hope it's nothing serious, but this actually isn't bad news IMO. Gets more minutes for Croaker, Holland, and Yancy. Felix can score but really kills the offense at times and is a defensive liability. Hopefully Yancy and Croaker can shine so they see more minutes in the future. Get well though Felix.

That was a nasty collision at mid court. I was concerned about a concussion at the time and confused that he stayed in for the free throws.

It looked like a big big quick stop hit. I hope it is not going to keep him out long.

Disagree with most all of this.

What do you disagree with? There's a reason Felix has been coming off the bench for a good majority of the year. There's no doubt Felix is a better scorer then Croaker, Holland and Yancy. There's more to basketball though. Felix is not a very good defensive player and the offense becomes stagnant when he's in the game. Felix will hit some big shots, but he will also hurt you in other areas. Don't get me wrong I like Felix in the rotation, but Texas is better served with Croaker, Holland and Yancy stealing some of his minutes.

Wait and watch as Croaker and Yancy develop Felix is going to be losing minutes. Just go look at his minutes per game this year, they are down (for example in the last two games he's only played 25 and 18 minutes). Not trying to hate on Felix but his all around game isn't what Holland, Croaker and Yancy bring to the table. Felix looks important because he can score, but there's much more to basketball (that's why he's been coming off the bench for most of the year). Felix brings attributes to the table, such as scoring, but he's a role player and nothing more. He's not going to beat out Taylor at point guard and Croaker/Holland/Yancy are better fits at shooting guard. Texas needs Felix in certain situations like at the end of games for free throw shooting and extra ball handling, but Texas will be a better team with Croaker, Yancy and Holland stealing some of his overall minutes. If Felix improves defensively and learns how to work within the offensive system, I might change my opinion. We need Felix in the rotation, but the reason I said this isn't bad news for the short term is because it gives Yancy and Croaker the chance to get more minutes (which in the long term is going to be the best thing for the team).

The glue of this team is Holland. Felix has a scorer's mentality that can both be a help and a hindrance at times. This is great time for him to miss a game as I would hope Texas can get by TCU with the freshmen guards. It's better he misses this game than Saturday at KSU.

Yep, TCU only has 7 scholarship players because of injury and academic problems. This gives Croaker and Yancy the ability to get some more minutes. Felix is definitely a player we need in the rotation, because there are games where we need his scoring. With that said, in the long term this team is going to be better IMO with Croaker and Yancy stealing minutes from Felix (that's not to say Felix won't be used in crucial situations like at the end of games).

I agree with Holland being the glue of this team too. He's not a great scorer but he does a lot of little things that people don't see. Easily our best defensive player and a great passer. He also doesn't require the ball in his hands that often on offense which is important when you need players like Ridley, Holmes and Taylor getting touches. That's why in the long run Croaker and Yancy are going to be better fits then Felix. You can't have 4 scorers on the court that require touches, got to have players that can move the ball and do other things for you.

Getting Myles Turner would make us scary good. I honestly don't know how teams would matchup with us. Ridley and Turner down low would be impossible to guard, teams already have enough trouble with size in guarding Ridley. Turner is also versatile and can stretch the court and hit jump shots. That's a nightmare because teams won't be able to just throw a big body at him, because then Turner will have a mismatch on the perimeter. Plus two big guys will make scoring a nightmare for other teams on the offensive end. Then you add Holmes who can stretch the court and go down low. That's also a nightmare because a shooting guard won't have the size to guard Holmes and a PF/Center won't have the speed to guard Holmes on the perimeter. A Ridley, Turner and Holmes combination is impossible to guard. Throw in Holland's defense and three point shooting with Taylor's penetration and scoring, that starting five is final four caliber.

I agree with the OP. Must take care of those concussions.

Jevan is the worst shooter on the team yet takes the most shots.

As far as I can tell, he is the only one who has the green light from Barnes to shoot at any time yet it makes little sense.

This game will be a great chance to find out who among the other guards is ready for more minutes. The team will be better in the long run for it.

There are certain things Jevan does really well but being looked to the primary scorer is not, or should not be, one of them.

hope you all are right. i won't be surprised if Texas struggles with TCU. I think they will win, but i'm betting they struggle a bit. I don't disagree entirely with the premise that getting some playing time for the other guys is a good thing, but i think many are downplaying the leadership role Jevan plays. He's a very stabilizing force for this team.

overall, this team has been an incredible surprise this year. And boy did this program need it. Really proud of the way this team plays.

as long as his coach is ok with how he is playing, I am ok.

Yep, that's the biggest problem with Felix is he shoots entirely too much (kills the rhythm of the offense most of the time). There's no denying that Felix can score, but he's a volume shooter.

Again, I'm not saying Texas doesn't need Felix in the rotation. Simply that Felix should never be getting 25-30 minutes in a game. Felix should be at about 15-17 minutes per game, with other guys getting some of his minutes.
