How NOT to end a GREAT vacation

So, first off my families Spring Break vacation was literally one of the best I have ever been on with the kids. The rugged beauty of the islands like St. Kitts and St. Lucia with the volcanoes and rainforest were just amazing. We got a small catamaran in Barbados to swim with turtles and snorkel on the reefs. In St. Thomas we kayaked the mangroves, which are trees that literally grow in the ocean and snorkeled there as well. We saw some awesome forts in Puerto Rico.

All was awesome until I got what I thought was a rash from swimming near the coral. However it turned out to be shingles and let me tell you, even having had dislocated knees, broken bones, etc. I have never been in as much constant pain as I am in right now. It is like knives coming out of my muscles and bones. It just plain sucks and is hard to sleep. I am taking Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Aleeve, and some left over prescription stuff (at different times) and it is still uncomfortable.

To make matters worse I blew out my knee the last day in PR at one of the forts. So let me tell you the plane ride home was a blast.

If I had not just finished up a great vacation, I would be in serious depression mode. But, the hell it and deal with it at this point. Back to reality and the Longhorns, no time to be depressed.

Ok, enough self-loathing ;)

Get well soon!!! Elevate leg and lots of ice!!! It's a great excuse to lay in bed and watch March Madness! :)

Thanks for sharing the pics and sorry about the shingles/knee, buddy. By the looks of the photos you guys experienced a slice of paradise.

I had shingles when I was 19. It was just an irritating itch.

The Doctor said if I got shingles in my 60's, it would be so painful that that I would consider suicide.

Hope you get over it soon.

a friend had shingles at 55. she agrees with the doctor.

I can say this, my wife had shingles about 5 years ago and it was not all that bad. It hurt a bit, but nothing serious. So when I first noticed it I figured it would not be so bad. Boy was I wrong. As I mentioned I have broken bones, dislocated about everything, and I would take any of those over this. It is strange because the actual rash does not hurt so much. The nerves in my body though feel like they are on fire and the random stabbing pain in my ribs and back just really suck. It is starting to get better now, which is why I even got back on the site. I got back from vacation on Tuesday and I am just starting to feel better.

Anyway, I actually had more pics to post, but they were too big. Have some really cool ones from St. Kitts.

Thanks for the well wishes.

I had shingles when I was 64 and I died a thousand deaths. I could not lay on my back, side, stomach or sit in a chair. I finally took a shingle shot and in a few days it started to go away.

thank goodness.

This post makes me want 2 things:

Never get shingles

Vacation to PR. I've flown through there but never vacationed.

Hope you are feeling better.
