Stephenville has gotten off to a really rocky start. I honestly think losing Gillespie to Tulsa is hurting the team this season. Gillespie was a heck of a coach for quite some time and had building a great reputation in Stephenville for many, many years. He's somebody I expect to be knocking on the Collegiate Defensive Coordinator door in a few years. I'm sure Chad Morris at SMU is keeping his eye out to see how Gillespie does at Tulsa.

How can you forget the Calhoun Sandcrabs? Or the Mesquite Skeeters? Or the Frost Polar Bears?

Amateur.....

Yes, I am. I have a real job, too.
Just teasin' you, SHA. Great job on the HS report!  ;)

My junior year in high school, we had a playoff game in the Alamodome. We come out of the locker room to start warm ups, but the game before us was going a little long. I look up to the scoreboard to see who was playing and I see:

Alamo Heights Mules vs. New Braunfels Unicorns

Was it for the HEB classic? Stephenville played New Braunfels in the Alamodome for the HEB Classic a while back. I too found it interesting that a team would use the name "Unicorns.

You guys are good. I knew ya'll would have your own contributions. There are so many it's hard to get them all.

The town of Post was named after C.W. Post, the cereal magnet. What if, instead of "Antelopes," they had been called the "Fighting Post Toasties!"?? LOL LOL

I thought the same thing about "Dragons", but I know there's at least two TX high schools with that team name; Southlake & Bangs.

Surprisingly, there's no Griffins...

SHA, Whitefaces? Watch out for the PC crowd! Probably an animal reference, anybody?

Don't forget the Hutto Hippos

Good catch.....how'd I forget Round Rock?

Yes, as a breed of cattle Herefords are also known as "Whitefaces" for their distinctive coloring.

When I was a young kid, we played the Bangs Dragons in a baseball tournament. This was a while back, I was around 11 years old at the time. I remember Bangs had this pitcher who could throw an 84 mph fastball at the age of 11. The kid no hit us for ten innings before the league rules mandated he was pulled out of the game. We beat them 1-0 in the 12th inning. I wish I could remember the kids name. It was insane standing at the plate against him at that age.

Don't leave out the Atlanta Rabbits...mascot name comes from a long time coach there with the last name of "Rabb".
