Am I allowed to be a bit concerned about hiring John? Can he recruit in Texas? Would the ring be enough to recruit?

Ravens haven't been overly impressive over the past few years when Ray Lewis isn't on the field. The Ravens offense is boring. Could he get it fast like we want it?

I'm just concerned a bit. Make me feel confident in that pick over Briles please.

I just posted this same concern on the Crossfire thread. Lotsa coaches have Super Bowl rings. That alone doesn't mean they can recruit.

John Harbaugh has an infectious personality. He will recruit like a mad man.

Not sure. He's great with QB development. I think I like that he studies the Oregon offense so much. I think his energy would recruit well.

I'm not worried about Harbaugh's ability to recruit. He did well as an assistant in that area at a lesser school.

Obviously the ring wouldnt accomplish anything. But that doesnt mean he wouldnt be great in recruiting

Harbaugh doesn't run the offense, that's why he would hire a coordinator, he runs that offense in the pros because that's what wins his division. He is smart grown up in a football family and would be a great face for texas, I would take him second to saban.

Watch Baylor play tonight and ask yourself if you want the Briles defense at Texas

Harbaugh is much more respected in the coaching fraternity than the interweb chat rooms. High School coaches in Texas would love to come to campus for clinics to learn from a SuperBowl winning HC who has never had a losing season in the NFL. The Raven's just aren't an organization that gets much press despite their success, and it was that way before Harbaugh got there as well. They already run Briles' offense to an extent on their HS campus and try NOT to learn the Briles defense, so although I see his relationships as a plus, Briles doesn't improve our recruiting much imo. The Texas HS coaches may not know Harbaugh well yet, but he also hasn't any baggage either on the flip side. Saban is probably the only name that can immediately sway 4 and 5 star recruits across the nation and in the State.

Recruiting hasn't been our problem outside of the QB position, and that is more talent evaluation, as the last 3 Heisman QB's wanted to come here...yes Texas does recruit for itself still some, but it was starting to slip. Developing recruits has been the issue, due to the entitlement culture and a few less than stellar asst. coaching hires.

Any decision to hire Briles would need to include a mandate to dump Phil Bennett and hire a first class DC like Narduzzi.

I think you have to remember that in the NFL the teams are controlled by salary caps and owners and GM's. Just look what happened to Johns team after they won the Super Bowl, lost several great players to free agency and GM/Owner that wouldn't or couldn't go out and spend money to replace them.

I think high school coaches will love him and he will be given the best staff in the nation to pull in recruits and win football games. I understand your concern but Texas and John Harbaugh would be a great team and I would be more concerned with a Briles or Strong hire.

If our next coach comes in and is able to win football games on the field, recruiting will take care of itself. Give me a guy like Harbaugh or Gruden with a great personality and I think things will work itself out. People are too worried about recruiting. What we need is a COACH. We need a guy who can change the culture of the program and have our guys in positions to win football games on the field and not because we have more talent than our opponent.

The biggest reason why I want a guy who's been successful in the NFL is because just about every week in the NFL the teams are evenly matched and it comes down to coaching and execution to win games. Guys who have to be that good at what they do on a weekly basis would be in heaven only having 2-3 games a year where you are going to be equal in talent. And having a guy like Gruden or Harbaugh would give us the best coach in the conference the moment they step into the job.

If Harbaugh concerns you, how does Gruden not concern you as well?
Right? We have no idea how effective either Harbaugh or Gruden would be at recruiting. We can speculate, though. And based on assumption alone, Gruden appears to have a magnetic, like-able personality that would sell well. As for Harbaugh, perhaps his style would be similar to that of Saban: let results (continued success on the field and player development) sell both him and the program.

we will find out about how good a recruiting Coach we choose out of the TOP Four for The University of Texas. :D

UT recruits itself. Harbough will kill it here.
I respectfully disagree, UT does not recruit itself, if it did Texas wold have more talent, and either Luck, RGIII, or Johnny would have wore burnt orange. I'm not as excited as most about John. I would rather have a proven recruiter in Briles. He recruits the state already, he is beating Texas for recruits. I also agree with one of the other posts, it stated that the Ravens are a boring team that does not look particularly exciting on offense. I believe that the culture of the state of Texas is the spread game. Most high school players in state come from it.
