Mack named Gilbert the starter today, followed by Case McCoy and then David Ash. Happy, sad, disappointed? Let the season begin!

I think this is ridiculous. Not that I know more than these coaches but most Texas fans could have told you this would be the case. Ash probably played the best but Mack doesn't want to piss off McCoy and have him transfer - nor did he want a true frosh to start given the season they had last year. Gilbert was the safe pick.

Give Gilbert the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Poor guy honestly didn't get a fair shake last season.

They're gonna beat the !@#$% out of Rice anyway. Why not start Gilbert? He could use the confidnece builder after last years dismal season. Besides McCoy should see lots of action this game too.

Holy shit! I wouldn't be surprised if Gilbert throws the trifecta pick 6 on Saturday. This guy does not have a clue how to hit a receiver on a route. I am surprised as hell Mack Brown named him as the starter!! What in the hell is going on in Austin! YES, I graduated from UT.

Can't say I'm surprised by this decision. I just hope the improved play calling, line play and running game are enough to get him to settle in. If not, I don't think he is on a very long leash. I'm pretty sure we'll see McCoy this Saturday against Rice.
