SignUp Now!Powers will be fine. He knows the alumni can be united when we want to be and I am guessing he is savvy enough to use that knowledge judiciously. After all, Powers' only real political adversary is Rick Perry. Its not as if any of us would have a problem lining up behind Bill to fu@k Rick Perry. Powers' real challenge now is to start lining up a successor. After that, he rides into history having done one hell of a good job as UT president.I just don't know how powers it's going to survive this after going against the BMD and board of regents
Maybe so but IF he went against the BOR to sabotage any chance at Saban, then he will have some explaining to do. Wouldn't want to be in his shoes right now. If he did go against the BOR then he should be fired.Powers will be fine. He knows the alumni can be united when we want to be and I am guessing he is savvy enough to use that knowledge judiciously.
I don't blame him. He was being crucified for doing his job, when word went round that Mack was ready to burn the house down because of the OB story... I'd have taken the gloves off, too.i get the feeling that Chip is not going to be playing nice for a while.
I agree. I think once the new coach is on the ground and the season starts next year all will be good. I will say, next season might be the most anticipated in years.Powers will be fine because he kept his word to the regents to make sure Mack left
The rest of it is pizzed off groups of BMDs that thought they were getting Saban. If we make a good hire, I think the anger will dissipate
Doesn't matter much since 95% of us can't get LHNI didn't want to start a separate thread for this, but notice that the bottom right corner of LHN says "Mack Brown Texas Football" on it.
Dizz - OB took down the post. I'm guessing Chip is being taken to the wood shed.Posted an update early this morn basically mentioning BMD/ regents who were after saban felt mack and powers screwed the whole thing and they were basically all out demanding Mack's resignation with threats to withhold all future donations to UT.
It could have gotten very messy...
Umm... Yeah I'm gonna have to... Go ahead and disagree with ya there. Saban would've turned UT into the "Death Star" of college football. I fail to see how preventing that "did UT a favor."If Mack and Powers killed the Saban deal, they did the University a great favor. Saban would not be a good fit at Texas.
Maybe what he meant was that we, as a fanbase, would not have been able to handle two titles (or more) within a 35-year period?Umm... Yeah I'm gonna have to... Go ahead and disagree with ya there. Saban would've turned UT into the "Death Star" of college football. I fail to see how preventing that "did UT a favor."
Who is he? Mack, Powers, or both?Yea I heard it was damn near civil war on Powers yesterday morning. Lots of anger and threats of withholding money. Even a couple of regents involved. I don't know for sure but I believe Powers discussed it with Mack and told him it had to happen or else it would get extremely public and messy, Mack finally agreed.
I Also think that in the end, the fan base will be united. As long as they make a solid hire. It looks
Iike he will not be involved in the search process
Sorry Mack will not be involved in the process. Powers is still feeling heat from this weekend, he is going to let Patterson handle this , although he will have to rubber stamp it.Who is he? Mack, Powers, or both?
For what it's worth, I don't blame them, re the civil war on Powers. The UT alumni united behind Powers to defend him against our incompetent Governor, and then he pulls this crap. If Powers thought some BMD's were overstepping, he should have manned-up, said slow down I'm uncomfortable with this and it is not going to work, let's do this the right way.
Just my two cents.
Couldn't agree more and it makes me feel good that so many were ready to go bat against the two of them. Both of them brought it completely on themselves and deserved it.It sounds like Mac and Powers over played their hand and greatly underestimated what the results would be of playing the game they played would be.
Not that long ago we were singing a very familiar tune in regards to Dodds.Powers will be fine.
