I havent lived in austin for years nor have I eaten at Franklins but know all about it from ob. My sister is in town from New York and she is a vegetarian and hangs around those types. Anyway she asks me if I have heard of Franklins before. Then she said one of her vegetarian friends, a 15 year+ vegetarian was in town for acl and decided to eat there and break his meat drought. He came back to New York a vegetarian again, but raved about the food and said he would do it again if he were in Austin. Damn, I need to try that stuff!

It is absolutely worth the wait. Plan on getting there by 9:00 am and hanging out till it opens. The long wait is just part of the experience.

I have thought about taking a Texas road trip that lasts a week or so to hit all of the notable bbq joints in the state. There are some damn good ones out there.

Hard to justify a trip just for that but it would be worth it.

Add Pecan Lodge to the list for that trip.

I'm hearing great things about Pecan Lodge as well. Franklins and Pecan Lodge are dominating the BBQ mentions in Texas lately, without a doubt.
